Regional Hospital in Marabá celebrates 19 years with 94% approval and over 62,000 life-changing surgeries
The Government of Pará unit celebrates nearly two decades of humanized care and advancements in public health in the region.
For 19 years, care and hope meet every day in the corridors of the Dr. Geraldo Veloso Regional Hospital of Southeast Pará (HRSP), in Marabá. A reference in high-complexity health, the unit celebrates its anniversary this Sunday (19), with a trajectory marked by over 62,000 surgeries performed and countless lives transformed.
Farmer João Gonçalves, 57, a resident of Palestina do Pará, in the Carajás region, was referred to the hospital after suffering a motorcycle accident that resulted in a severe leg fracture. He underwent emergency orthopedic surgery, performed by a multidisciplinary team. "The surgery was a success, I am very grateful for the care and attention of the team. Now I just need to continue recovering, and if everything goes well, I will be home soon," he highlighted.
Another patient who underwent surgery at the unit was bricklayer Francildo de Souza, 55, a resident of Eldorado do Carajás. After experiencing severe pain in the groin area, he was referred to the Regional, where he was diagnosed with an inguinal hernia and needed to undergo surgical procedure. "I was scared at first, but I was very well attended. Now, after the surgery, I already feel better and thank everyone for their care," Francildo said.
According to the Secretary of State for Public Health, Ivete Gadelha Vaz, the hospital's anniversary represents another milestone in the consolidation of the SUS in Pará and reinforces the State Government's commitment to the quality of care provided to the population. "The Regional Hospital of Marabá is a source of pride for all of us. It is a unit that combines technology, humanization, and technical excellence, reflecting the Government's continuous effort to ensure quality public health for those who need it most," emphasized the head of Sespa.

"Each surgery represents more than a technical procedure. It is the chance to return the smile, the hug, and the routine of those who love and are loved. Behind every scalpel, there is a team that works with heart, driven by the desire to transform pain into a new beginning. That is what inspires us every day inside the surgical center," Delyo emphasized.
The hospital also has a modern hemodynamics sector, where minimally invasive procedures and surgeries are performed, such as catheterization, angioplasties, and cerebral embolization. These advancements allow for more accurate diagnoses, high-complexity treatment with shorter hospitalization times, and faster recovery for patients.

The high approval reflects real stories of those who find in the Regional more than just medical care: they find welcome. Solange Barbosa dos Santos, 63, a resident of Marabá, in the Carajás region, an oncology patient who was discharged this month, summarized the feelings of many users.
"It was days of struggle and overcoming, but here I found care, respect, and dedicated professionals. Everything works with organization and affection, and that makes all the difference.
