Adepará extends deadline for updating animal registration in Marajó

The new deadline ends on November 14 and is essential for maintaining the health of herds in the archipelago

The Agricultural Defense Agency of the State of Pará (Adepará) has extended the deadline for updating animal registration in the Marajó archipelago. The campaign started in August and was set to end on October 14, but the deadline has been extended to November 14 due to climatic conditions affecting livestock activities.

According to the acting regional manager of Soure, Olivar Valente, the deadline for the declaration was extended due to the delay in the summer on Marajó Island, which hindered cattle control by producers.

"Marajó is facing an atypical year, with the drought of the fields being delayed. This prevents cattle producers from gathering and controlling their animals, impacting the counting and identification of the herd. Therefore, it is important to extend the deadline for the registration campaign to meet the specific needs of the region and support rural producers," explained the manager.

With the new deadline, producers have gained a new chance to update their herd data, needing to inform the quantity, age, and species of the animals they have on their properties.

To update the data, the producer must appear in person at an Adepará unit in their municipality, bringing an official photo ID and a list of the species of animals present on the property. In the seven municipalities linked to the Soure Regional, producers have been daily seeking the Defense Agency to update their registration.

Registration Update - The main objective of the registration update is to maintain sanitary control and keep the herd database updated, especially after the suspension of vaccination against foot-and-mouth disease. This procedure is essential for:

- Maintaining certification as a foot-and-mouth disease-free zone: A solid database is essential to prove the sanitary condition of the state.

- Strengthening ties with rural producers: The registration update is a way to maintain partnership with producers to update information.

- Guiding public policies: Accurate data allows for identifying the size of the herd, the importance of the sector, and directing resources for the benefit of producers.

- Providing official information: The database is used for planning and developing the sector.
