Regional Hospital of Lower Amazon Dr. Waldemar Penna (HRBA) promoted practical knowledge about Physical Therapy

Student João Pedro Oliveira Cordeiro, 21 years old, is in the 8th semester of the Physical Therapy course at the State University of Pará (Uepa), in Santarém, western Pará. This week, he had the opportunity to learn a little more about his area of expertise within a hospital unit, through the sharing of experiences from the physiotherapists at the Regional Hospital of Lower Amazon Dr. Waldemar Penna (HRBA).

"I really liked it, the lectures were given by qualified professionals. It’s good, because these are topics that we see a lot in theory at university and here we can learn a little more about the daily lives of these collaborators in the hospital. I plan to do a residency in intensive therapy and, God willing, one day work here. So, for me, it was very important," highlighted João Pedro.

Collaborators, students, residents, and graduated professionals participated on the 15th and 16th of this month in the first "Physical Therapy Week," promoted by the Regional Hospital of Santarém. The unit is a reference in the service, working on the recovery of patients hospitalized in the Neonatal, Pediatric, and Adult Intensive Care Units (ICUs); in the hospitalization units and also in the hospital's reception sector, in addition to conducting consultations and outpatient sessions. Today, HRBA has 53 physiotherapists attending to patients daily.

The objective of the program was to celebrate Physiotherapist Day, celebrated on the 13th, and to offer training and qualification to students and professionals in the field. "This year, we changed the format of celebrating this date and decided to have two days of conversation and exchange of experiences. At this moment, we demonstrated how the physiotherapist operates in the hospital area. It was two important days, where we discussed updates in physiotherapeutic approaches," explained the coordinator of the physiotherapy department at HRBA, Fábio Cunha Ribeiro.

During the program, topics such as: mobilization and stimulation in Neonatal and Pediatric Intensive Care Units; Hospital Physiotherapy in Oncology, the role of the Adult Intensive Care Physiotherapist; Physiotherapeutic practice in Post-Operative of Lower Limb and Thoracic/Abdominal Surgeries; and non-invasive ventilatory support for Neonates were addressed.

One of the speakers was physiotherapist Cassius Xabregas, who specializes in traumatic-orthopedic physiotherapy. He approved the event and the opportunity to discuss the daily lives of professionals working at HRBA.

HRBA has more than 50 physiotherapists

"It is extremely important that we can exchange ideas with professionals and students, so they can have more knowledge about our area of operation here in the hospital, with the techniques we use and also in general, with the population of Santarém and western Pará. It is a moment to exchange knowledge. It was an excellent initiative," he stated.

For Professor Liliana Wanderley, who is a preceptor for the internship of the physical therapy course at Uepa, the program was important not only for university students but also for her as a professional in the field. "I thought it was wonderful. I brought my students so they can see what physical therapy really is, what is good in our area, based on the reports and experiences of the professionals here at the hospital. This event is very important, topics that are very relevant were discussed, and I believe that the program complements the training of the students and also mine, as there were many subjects that I hadn’t seen in a long time."

"We are also a reference hospital in physiotherapy and we know the importance of this service to the users who are treated here at HRBA. So, in addition to honoring our collaborators, we decided to expand the program to a training event, with relevant topics for professionals and students in the field. It is part of our commitment to develop health in the region and we are very happy with the participation and the learning moment," concluded the general director of the unit, Matheus Coutinho.

Service - HRBA is a reference in medium and high complexity, providing 100% referenced service, meeting the demand originating from the State Regulation Center.

The unit belongs to the Government of Pará, being managed by the Social Institute Mais Saúde in partnership with the State Department of Public Health (Sespa). It operates at Avenida Sérgio Henn, No. 1100, in the Diamantino neighborhood, in Santarém.
