Government of Pará lights up Mangueirão in support of the Pink October campaign
The initiative, promoted by the Government of Pará, reinforces the State's commitment to valuing women's health and encouraging preventive care
On the night of this Thursday (16), the Olympic Stadium of Pará, Journalist Edgar Proença, Mangueirão, a historic stage of Pará and Brazilian football, took on a special hue: pink. The lighting is part of the awareness actions of Pink October, a global campaign dedicated to the prevention and early diagnosis of breast cancer.
The initiative, promoted by the Government of Pará, reinforces the State's commitment to valuing women's health and encouraging preventive care, contributing to the reduction of cases and the promotion of quality of life.
The Secretary of State for Sports and Leisure, Cássio Andrade, highlighted the symbolism of the action in the largest sports venue in Pará.
"Mangueirão is a symbol of our state and, illuminated in pink, it also becomes a symbol of awareness. We want to draw the population's attention to the importance of prevention and early diagnosis of breast cancer. Taking care of health is an act of love and responsibility," emphasized the secretary.
With this action, the Government of Pará reinforces the message that information and prevention are the main tools in the fight against breast cancer, promoting an alert that goes beyond sports and reaches the entire society.
Pink October
Pink October is an international awareness movement about breast cancer, created in the early 1990s when the pink ribbon was launched by the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation and distributed to participants of the first Race for the Cure, held in New York (USA). Since then, the campaign has been promoted annually in various countries.

Objectives of the movement
The main objectives of Pink October are to raise awareness and educate about breast cancer prevention. The importance of performing mammograms and other preventive exams, which can detect cancer in its early stages, increasing the effectiveness of treatment and chances of cure, is promoted.
