Detran guides the population on traffic in the area of the new Outeiro bridge
The project will be delivered by the state government, promoting intense movement on access roads

The new bridge connecting the districts of Icoaraci and Outeiro in Belém is almost ready, and to guide people who transit through the area, the State Traffic Department (Detran) has initiated a series of educational actions in the access area to the project. The aim is to proactively guide pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers in general about the intense vehicle movement that the area will experience after the delivery.

The Detran education agent, Kleyson Ramos, explains that the action aims to alert primarily to the risks of accidents with the increase in the flow of cars and motorcycles. “Before the bridge, the flow was reduced, with people transiting more calmly, but now, with the delivery approaching, it is necessary to change behavior, double the care with children on the street, the crossing of the elderly, and everyone who will continue to circulate to avoid possible traffic occurrences,” he reflects.
Detran estimates an increase of 500 vehicles transiting per hour on the 7th Street of Icoaraci, the main access road to the bridge. On the morning of this Thursday (16), the education agents of the agency spoke with residents and drivers passing through the area. For pedestrians, the guidance is to use only the sidewalks and cross only at the crosswalk. For cyclists, the tip is to ride on the edge of the road and always in the same direction as the vehicles, avoiding the opposite lane. For motorcyclists and drivers, Detran advises respecting overtaking, speed, and parking areas. Children should be especially careful, avoiding playing in the street and only crossing in the company of an adult.

The construction of the new bridge is an initiative of the state government and was designed to facilitate the mobility of people and vehicles in an area of high population density. The project will shorten the distance between the two districts, making it easier for those who work in Icoaraci and Outeiro to move around, and improving commercial and tourist flow in the region.
Ana Cristina lives in Icoaraci but frequents the beauty salon in Outeiro. The crossing, which was previously done in small boats and took about an hour back and forth, with payment and waiting for the boat, can now be done at any time, in less than five minutes and at no cost. “It will be wonderful for us, who used to have to wait to cross. With this bridge, I will be able to go to the salon I like more often and conveniently and take care of other things in the district. I am really very excited,” she commented.

Construction worker Luiz Carlos Corrêa lives a few meters from the bridge and says that for over 30 years the residents of Icoaraci have been waiting for this moment. “I work in Outeiro and take a route of at least 30 minutes to get there, and now, with the bridge, it will take about five minutes. Moreover, it will prevent accidents with the little boats. Indeed, traffic here in our neighborhood will become intense and needs this guidance from Detran,” he assessed.
The main access roads to the bridge have already received new asphalt paving and are being signposted to ensure safe, comfortable, and organized traffic. Detran's educational actions in Outeiro and Icoaraci will continue until the delivery of the project, expected in the coming days.
