The Galileu State Public Hospital (HPEG), in Greater Belém, was highlighted at the 41st Congress of the International Society for Quality in Health Care (ISQua), held from October 12 to 15 in São Paulo (SP). Recognized as the largest global forum on care excellence and patient safety, the event brought together leaders and experts from various countries to discuss strategies aimed at efficiency, transparency, and governance in health services.

The unit of the Government of Pará, managed by the Amazon Social and Environmental Health Institute (ISSAA), in partnership with the State Department of Public Health (Sespa), presented the study "Qualitometer Audit: A Tool for the Development of Corporate and Clinical Governance in a 100% SUS Hospital" — in free translation, "Qualitometer Audit: a tool for the development of corporate and clinical governance in a 100% SUS hospital."

The work was developed by the hospital's quality team and presented by Paula Narjara, corporate manager of Quality and Patient Safety at ISSAA, and Pamela Mota, co-author of the study. "The ISQua international conference brought valuable insights to enhance our patient safety practices in the units. The population we serve daily deserves the best we can offer. Participating in a world-class event was an exceptional experience that will add great value to our services," highlighted Pamela Mota.

The corporate administrative director of ISSAA, Rodrigo Moreira, emphasized that the recognition reinforces the solidity of the management model applied in the units under the Institute's responsibility. "Participating in a congress of this magnitude, presenting concrete results from an internally developed tool, highlights ISSAA's commitment to innovation, transparency, and continuous improvement of the quality of care offered to the population," he stated.

Innovation and results - The study highlighted the significant advances achieved by Galileu Hospital in the application of the Qualitometer, a tool that has been consolidating as a reference in management and care quality. The percentage of sectors with 100% compliance in internal audits jumped from 22% in 2022 to 47% in 2024, with a forecast of reaching 55% by the end of 2025 — a result that reflects institutional maturity and consolidation of the culture of continuous improvement.

"The data shows that the culture of quality and safety is not only consolidated but is in full expansion in the unit. Each advance represents the collective maturation of the team and reinforces management's commitment to care excellence and strengthening SUS," stated Paula Narjara.

Representing the hospital at the congress, Paula explained that the study's methodology involves participatory monthly audits, guided by technical and behavioral criteria. "The results are disclosed transparently and accessibly, through visual management — a tool that encourages team engagement, strengthens institutional integrity, and consolidates collective accountability for the results achieved," she added.

International recognition and local commitment - Certified with Level 3 Accreditation from ONA, Galileu presented to the international scene a genuinely Brazilian innovation in hospital governance, applicable both in public units and in high-complexity institutions, capable of promoting management evolution and care excellence.

"We demonstrated concrete impacts of the model on strategic axes of hospital administration, such as the technical and behavioral development of teams, the appreciation of merit and performance in internal promotions, the strengthening of clinical governance, and the elevation of quality and patient safety standards," highlighted Paula Narjara.

For the unit's director, Cledes Silva, the international recognition reinforces Galileu's role as a reference in good practices within the Unified Health System (SUS). "Taking the name of Galileu Hospital to a world congress is a source of pride for all of us. This recognition shows that the work done here in the Amazon has global reach. It is the result of the daily dedication of a team committed to quality and patient safety," stated Cledes Silva.

The director also emphasized that participation in the event reinforces the unit's mission to continuously improve its processes, both those related to patient care and administrative management, emphasizing that the event is an opportunity to strengthen this main objective of the unit. "Each improvement implemented and each result achieved reflects our purpose of caring with excellence. When the patient is at the center of our decisions, quality ceases to be a goal and becomes part of the hospital's culture," he concluded.

Institutional - The Qualitometer project has been implemented by ISSAA in other public health units in Pará, strengthening standardization and the culture of excellence in the network. Among them are the Southeast Pará Regional Hospital – Dr. Geraldo Veloso (HRSP), in Marabá; the Metropolitan Polyclinic, in Belém; the Tucuruí Lake Polyclinic, and the Carajás Polyclinic, also in Marabá.
