Operation Virtue inspects 17 shelters for the elderly in Belém and Ananindeua
The action by Segup integrates a national effort to combat violence against the elderly and continues until the end of October in Pará
The State Secretariat for Public Security and Social Defense (Segup) carried out, this Wednesday (15), the inspection of 17 shelters for the elderly in the municipalities of Belém and Ananindeua, as part of Operation Virtue 2025, promoted by the Ministry of Justice and Public Security (MJSP). The action aims to prevent and suppress crimes against the elderly, ensuring comprehensive protection and contributing to the dignified aging of the Pará population.
Coordinated nationally by the MJSP and articulated with the Ministry of Human Rights and Citizenship (MDH), the operation involves the participation of state public security agencies. In Pará, the inspection brought together 15 agents from the Military, Civil, Scientific Police, and the Military Fire Brigade.
Appropriate facilities and multidisciplinary services
According to Delegate Ariane Melo, director of Public Security Policies and Social Prevention at Segup, the overall evaluation of the inspected shelters was positive. “The places, in general, had facilities favorable to the reception of elderly people. In most of them, the existence of psychosocial, medical, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and entertainment activities, including games and crafts, was verified, so that they remain active during the day,” she highlighted.
The delegate also emphasized the importance of the articulation between the protection network and public security agencies. “The most important thing is that these reception spaces know the specialized police station and other security agencies, in case it is necessary to call for help in situations of suspected violence,” she added.
Action continues until the end of October
Operation Virtue takes place in commemoration of the anniversary month of the Statute of the Elderly (Law No. 10.741/2003), and is an integrated action of national scope. In Pará, the next inspections are scheduled for the municipalities of Salinópolis, in the Northeast Region, and Santarém, in the Lower Amazon Region. The activities will continue until October 31, aiming to expand the protection network and ensure that the reception spaces meet the needs of the elderly population.
