Pará achieved a historic reduction of 85% in fire hotspots between July and September 2025, compared to the same period last year, according to data from the National Institute for Space Research (Inpe). Between July and September of this year, the state recorded 4,929 fire hotspots, a significant reduction compared to the 33,931 counted in the same period of 2024. This result is a direct outcome of the actions of the Pará Sem Fogo program — a state initiative for the prevention and combat of forest fires, launched this year by Governor Helder Barbalho. The program has strengthened monitoring, enforcement, firefighting, and prevention actions throughout the state, in addition to benefiting from the relative alleviation of climatic conditions.

“With a series of favorable data, Pará continues to show that it is possible to protect the forest and maintain environmental responsibility. The decrease in fire hotspots proves that Pará Sem Fogo is an effective public policy, built on planning, science, and partnership with municipalities and communities. We will continue to expand these actions to ensure a sustainable future for our State and for the Amazon,” highlighted the governor.

Pará Sem Fogo, developed in partnership with the Military Fire Department, operates on four axes: real-time monitoring, science-based prevention, coordinated rapid response, and training of local brigades. It also provides for the establishment of an Integrated Multi-Agency Center, bringing together environmental, agricultural, and community protection agencies under a single command of operations, in addition to relying on the support of volunteer brigades to act in firefighting.

The Secretary of Environment, Climate, and Sustainability of Pará, Raul Protázio Romão, emphasized the direct impact of the actions on the results. “The data reflects the strengthening of state actions for the preservation of our forests, our fauna, and the population. Pará Sem Fogo comes to enhance the presence of these actions in municipalities and improve the integrated response of the State,” said the secretary.

According to the data, August and September also saw significant reductions: 1,273 and 2,853 hotspots, respectively, compared to 13,677 and 17,079 hotspots observed in 2024.

With state decree No. 4,868, which declared an environmental and climatic emergency for 180 days, the Government intends to further expand the actions of the program, ensuring greater response capacity in the face of forest fires and extreme climatic events.
