The Government of Pará, through the State Secretariat for Indigenous Peoples (Sepi), participated in the World Nature Congress (IUCN 2025), held in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, one of the most important international forums on conservation and sustainability in the world. The Secretary of State for Indigenous Peoples, Puyr Tembé, participated in the debate on "Everything, everywhere, all at once: Addressing the risks of climate overshoot," which discussed the risks of climate change, that is, the falling limits of the planet's climate.

Pará's participation reinforces the state's role in the global climate agenda, highlighting the leadership of indigenous peoples in forest protection and confronting climate change. The panel addressed the challenges and solutions to curb the rise of emissions and avoid environmental and social imbalances that directly affect communities and ecosystems.

In her speech, Puyr Tembé emphasized that the response to the climate crisis necessarily involves the leadership of indigenous peoples: "Indigenous peoples live and feel the effects of climate imbalance before anyone else. We are the first to lose when the planet exceeds its limits, but we are also the first to act. The world needs to understand that without our leadership, there is no possible climate justice."

The secretary also highlighted that Pará has been an example of articulation between climate, forest, and human rights, by promoting public policies that integrate sustainability, traditional knowledge, and territorial strengthening.

"The Government of Pará is showing that it is possible to build solutions based on dialogue between science and ancestral wisdom. We are promoting listening, strengthening leadership, and building public policies that unite sustainable development and the protection of life in the territories."

The debate also included topics such as climate financing, transparency in resource allocation, and participatory governance. For Puyr, real progress on the climate agenda depends on indigenous peoples being present at all stages of decision-making.

"We do not want to be merely beneficiaries of policies, but co-authors of them. The forest is our home, and any solution that does not include us from the beginning is incomplete."

With a presence at one of the largest environmental events on the planet, the Government of Pará, through SEPI, reaffirms its commitment to defending the Amazon, strengthening indigenous peoples, and building sustainable policies with global impact, placing the state at the center of international discussions on the planet's climate future.
