Pará trains 10 artisans in the art of building and repairing musical instruments
The ceremony will be next Wednesday (15) with a musical presentation using the instruments created by the students; the project is in partnership with Confloresta

The Cultural Foundation of Pará (FCP) is training a new class of luthiers, artisans specialized in the construction and repair of string musical instruments. After six months and 300 hours of training, ten new professionals will complete the Luthier Course in a ceremony with a closing musical presentation, next Wednesday (15), starting at 10:30 AM, at the Teatro do Curro Velho. The event will feature performances using the six instruments (two guitars and four cavaquinhos) that the students themselves built.
The project not only revives a centuries-old art that is expanding in Brazil but also strengthens the cultural production chain of Pará and the use of certified raw materials. The initiative is the result of an essential partnership with the Brazilian Association of Forest Concession Companies (Confloresta), which ensured the donation of certified wood used in the classes, as well as covering part of the instructor's payment and providing financial assistance in the form of scholarships to the students.
The intensive training equipped the new artisans with techniques for building, maintaining, and repairing string instruments, opening doors to an expanding job market. "The course is more than just a workshop; it is a unique opportunity that combines the tradition of an ancient craft with the innovation of new materials and techniques. We are delivering qualified professionals to Pará, ready to contribute to the appreciation of local knowledge and the strengthening of the creative economy," says Andrei Miralha, workshop coordinator at Curro Velho.

The culminating program, organized by Musical Language Manager Paulinho Assunção, will feature the participation of the following guest musicians: the renowned Pará musician Salomão Habib (guitar/multi-instrumentalist), Tiago Amaral (clarinet), Diego Santos (7-string guitar), Carlos Meireles (cavaquinho), José André Ganso (pandeiro), and Mauro Bitencourt (atabaque). The newly built instruments by the students will be the centerpiece of the performance, demonstrating the practical results of their learning.
The FCP aims to ensure the continuity of the initiative for next year, but the maintenance of the project in 2026 will depend on new arrangements, reinforcing the Foundation's role in democratizing access to high-quality artistic and technical training in the State.
