Governor Helder Barbalho delivered, on the morning of this Wednesday (8), the new Icoaraci Tourist Water Terminal in Belém, on the same day that the district celebrates its founding anniversary. Known as Vila Sorriso, Icoaraci gains a modern and accessible facility that will be a reference in river transport and in strengthening local tourism.

With the capacity to handle 2,000 embarkations and disembarkations per day and to dock up to 10 vessels simultaneously, the terminal will benefit more than 10,000 residents of the nearby islands, especially Cotijuba, one of the main tourist routes in the region.

The ceremony was attended by Vice Governor Hana Ghassan, Federal Deputy José Priante, President of Alepa, Deputy Chicão, Mayor of Belém, Igor Normando, and President of the Ports and Waterways Company (CPH), Hilton Aguiar.

Integration and development - During the inauguration, Governor Helder Barbalho highlighted the symbolism of the delivery on Icoaraci's anniversary and the impact of the terminal on mobility and tourism in the capital of Pará.

“Today, on the anniversary of Icoaraci, we have the privilege of inaugurating this water terminal, the result of a partnership between the State Government and the mandate of Deputy José Priante, through a parliamentary amendment with the Federal Government, and with the City Hall of Belém. All of us, together, deliver this necessary space for a city that dialogues with the rivers, with the islands, and with riverside production. Now, people will have a dignified, accessible place that respects the users of water transport,” said the governor.

Helder Barbalho also emphasized that the new terminal will be essential for strengthening the tourism logistics of the capital, especially with the arrival of new international cruises.

“This terminal strongly contributes to structuring the tourism logistics of Icoaraci and Belém. We already have transatlantic ships scheduled for later this year, which will use this space to dock in the city and experience the opportunity to know Belém at this moment of national and international visibility that the State is achieving,” added the governor.

Modernity, comfort, and accessibility

The new terminal features 650 m² of built area, with ticket counters, restrooms, shops, and restaurants, in addition to 350 m² of operational area, with a covered walkway and modern floating structures for the embarkation and disembarkation of passengers. The space was designed to ensure accessibility, comfort, and safety, replacing the old improvised pier that no longer met the growing demand of the region.

The president of CPH, Hilton Aguiar, highlighted the role of the new facility in the daily lives of the population. “Today is an important day for the community of Icoaraci and the islands. This terminal will meet the demand of Cotijuba and all the nearby islands, offering more safety, comfort, and quality in transport. It is a great gain for the region,” he stated.

A resident of the district for over 20 years, educator Edicéia Farias celebrated the delivery of the new space. “It is a gift that Icoaraci is receiving from the State Government. We, the residents, are very happy because this terminal will benefit the entire population and also enhance the waterfront of Icoaraci, which is a tourist spot. It is an achievement for everyone,” she said.
