State Government participates in the official opening of Círio 2025 and reinforces support for the festivity
The mass celebrated at the Basilica Sanctuary of Nazaré marked the beginning of the 233rd edition of the Círio de Nazaré, with the presence of Governor Helder Barbalho and Vice Governor Hana Ghassan

The Basilica Sanctuary of Nazaré, in Belém, recorded another moment of faith and emotion on the night of this Tuesday (7), during the celebration of the mass that marked the official opening of Círio de Nazaré 2025. Governor Helder Barbalho, Vice Governor Hana Ghassan, and First Lady Daniela Barbalho participated in the celebration, presided over by Dom Júlio Akamine, metropolitan archbishop of Belém.
The religious rite, which gathered hundreds of faithful, also included the presence of members of the Festival Board, the Clergy, the Government of Pará, and the City Hall of Belém. After the mass, the devotees witnessed the traditional lighting of the Basilica's facade — a symbolic act that marks the official beginning of the 233rd edition of the largest religious manifestation in Pará.

Faith and enchantment - Governor Helder Barbalho highlighted the significance of Círio for the people of Pará and reinforced the State's commitment to strengthening the festivity, which boosts the economy, tourism, and culture of Pará.
“Those who visit us certainly feel moved, but we who live here feel an even more special emotion, which is renewed each year with Maria through the streets of Belém, pouring blessings and opening her mantle to welcome all families. I want to say that, for another year, the state government is joining in support of the festival, making a transfer of R$ 2 million, helping to ensure that this extraordinary event continues to mobilize and enchant our capital,” emphasized the governor.
Helder Barbalho also reiterated the State's commitment to support the project for the construction of the Our Lady of Nazaré Events Center, which is to be built near the Basilica.

“I want to reinforce, Dom Júlio, what I told you in our first meeting. Last year, Dom Alberto coordinated with the leaders of Círio so that we could build a large events center for Our Lady of Nazaré. I want to reaffirm the state government's commitment to allocate R$ 40 million, the necessary funds for the construction of this fantastic structure, which will serve all the people who adore Maria and all of us, people of Pará,” assured the governor.
Movement - One of the largest expressions of religiosity in the world, Círio de Nazaré also has a strong social, cultural, and economic impact. The festivity boosts tourism, commerce, the hotel network, and the transportation sector, attracting visitors from all regions of Brazil and abroad.
The official opening of Círio 2025 also featured musical performances and tributes to Our Lady of Nazaré. The program continues throughout the week with religious and cultural events, culminating on Sunday (12) with the grand procession in the morning, which will take the Pilgrim Image through the streets of Belém, accompanied by millions of devotees.
