The Regional Hospital of Southeast Pará – Dr. Geraldo Veloso (HRSP), in Marabá, has launched the "Scarves of Affection" campaign, which runs until October 20, inviting society to spread affection by donating headscarves for women undergoing chemotherapy at the institution. The action aims to support patients who, despite facing hair loss, remain strong, brave, and determined.

Aline Oliveira, 37, a resident of Marabá in the Carajás region, a cancer patient undergoing chemotherapy at the hospital, emphasizes the importance of the campaign. "The campaign shows that care goes beyond treatment. It is a gesture of affection that strengthens us and makes us feel that we are not alone in this journey," she highlighted.

Cleonildes Menezes, 39, also from Marabá, receiving care in the Oncology Department, reinforces the significance of the campaign. "It is beautiful to see people coming together for such a sensitive cause. The scarf has become a symbol of support and hope for us women, showing that there is empathy and solidarity behind each donation," she stated.

According to nurse Poliana Barbosa, responsible for the Oncology Department, hair loss is one of the most striking side effects of chemotherapy treatment and can affect patients' self-esteem; therefore, gestures like this make all the difference.

"It is a difficult process that goes beyond physical appearance; it affects identity, how a woman sees herself and presents herself to the world," she explained. "That is why actions like this have a very significant impact. The scarf brings comfort, support, and helps restore the confidence of those facing a delicate phase of life," Poliana emphasized.

Donation - Those interested in participating in the campaign can drop off their donations at the institution's reception any day and time until October 20. The Government of Pará unit is located on Rodovia PA-150, at km 07, s/n, Nova Marabá, Marabá.

Symbol of courage - At the Regional Hospital of Marabá, the campaign is promoted by the Humanization Service, which aims to transform simple gestures into welcoming experiences. The "Scarves of Affection" initiative is an opportunity to strengthen the emotional well-being and self-esteem of women undergoing cancer treatment at the unit.

For Daiane Uszynski, Humanization analyst at the institution, the scarf goes far beyond an aesthetic accessory; it carries a profound meaning of empathy and support. "The scarf represents welcome. Each woman who receives it feels remembered, recognized, and supported," she explained. "It becomes a symbol of courage for those facing cancer with strength and hope, finding beauty even on difficult days," she highlighted.

According to the professional, in addition to the campaign, various actions throughout the year are carried out to support women undergoing treatment. "This year, we have already delivered wigs and conducted aesthetic activities, such as self-makeup workshops and skincare, specifically aimed at patients undergoing chemotherapy," she emphasized.

The campaign is part of the Pink October program promoted by the hospital, which will carry out awareness actions throughout the month regarding the prevention and confrontation of breast cancer. Activities include educational lectures, discussion circles, and care moments aimed at both patients and staff of the unit.

The unit has also conducted care and beauty actions for patients undergoing treatment this year.

Oncological reference - The Oncology Service of the Government of Pará unit offers specialized care in clinical oncology, mastology, oncological surgery, and gynecological oncology. The structure has 10 chairs for chemotherapy sessions, 20 clinical beds for hospitalization, and a surgical center prepared for oncological procedures, ensuring safe and quality care at all stages of treatment.

Inaugurated last year by Governor Helder Barbalho, the Oncology Service of the Regional Hospital has already achieved significant numbers in just over a year of operation. From April 2024 to September 2025, there were 8,351 oncological appointments, including 5,227 consultations, 1,801 chemotherapy sessions, and 1,323 surgeries and procedures.

Profile - With 100% SUS coverage, the Regional Hospital of Southeast Pará, managed by the Institute of Social and Environmental Health of the Amazon (ISSAA) in partnership with the State Department of Public Health (Sespa), has 135 beds, including 97 clinical hospitalization beds and 38 ICU beds (Adult, Pediatric, and Neonatal), and is a regional reference in medium and high complexity, offering specialized services in Hemodialysis, Hemodynamics, and Oncology.
