Emater's support ensures R$ 30,000 in rural credit for açaí-producing family in Castanhal
They were benefited through Pronaf B/Woman, after Emater created a project for irrigation and sustainable management of the fruit

The Government of Pará, through the Technical Assistance and Rural Extension Company of the State of Pará (Emater-Pará), benefited this week a family producing açaí with rural credit of almost R$30,000, in the Cupiúba Settlement, in Castanhal, northeast of the state.
Ruth Silva, one of the benefited producers, reported that she sought the Local Office of Emater in Castanhal in search of a project that could help her recover the açaí plantation, which had been burned. After that, the irrigation and management project for the fruit was created with financing of R$27,000.
“Our plantation was destroyed and my husband and I didn’t know what to do. That’s when we had the idea to seek help from Emater. They created this project, it was presented to the bank, it was approved, and with this amount we will receive, we will recover our plantation and improve our production, our income. It came at the best moment and Emater's support was fundamental in this,” she said.
She was benefited by the National Program for Strengthening Family Agriculture (Pronaf), in the Group B Woman, of the Federal Government, through the Bank of Brazil. It is aimed at women family farmers and finances projects or investments in various activities.
According to technician Carlos Roberto de Matos, from the Local Office of Emater in Castanhal, other family farmers are expected to receive benefits in the region.
“We created this management and irrigation project, especially because they had a loss in one of the areas and it was approved. Still this week we will be forwarding three more proposals, two being Pronaf B/Woman, worth R$15,000 each and one worth R$12,000, for activities related to açaí, cassava, and poultry farming,” he explained.
