Hospital Jean Bitar celebrates 14 years with 3 million appointments in Belém
The state public hospital unit also prides itself on having a satisfaction rate of about 90% among users

A festive atmosphere marked the commemorative ceremony of the 14th anniversary of Hospital Jean Bitar (HJB) in Belém on Friday afternoon (3). The event brought together dozens of people, including users, companions, collaborators, and partners, who celebrated over three million appointments and about 90% user satisfaction, as well as other results, achievements, and advances that consolidate the hospital unit as a reference in the public health network of Pará.
The program included presentations of data on gastrointestinal treatments and diseases such as obesity and diabetes, with a focus on bariatric and otorhinolaryngological surgeries, as well as care for transgender users, which reached the mark of 3,193,058 million appointments with a celebration of 89.29% satisfaction rate among its users in Pará.

For the Secretary of State for Public Health of Pará, Ivete Vaz, celebrating the 14 years of Hospital Jean Bitar is to recognize the transformative impact that a committed public management can have on people's lives.
“With over 3 million appointments and nearly 90% approval from users, HJB is an example of humanized care, innovation, and excellence. The attention to the health of the population, the advances in the treatment of obesity and metabolic diseases, as well as national recognition in quality and sustainability, show that we are on the right track. We reaffirm the commitment of the Government of Pará and Sespa to further strengthen the public health network of our State,” said the state secretary.

Among those benefited by the 100% Unified Health System (SUS) care is administrative assistant Thainá Damasceno Quaresma, who at 36 years old sought the Bariatric Surgery Program in 2021 when she weighed 134 kg. She reports that she experienced embarrassment in public spaces, difficulty in mobility, back pain, and an impact on her relationship with her children.
After the surgery, she lost 53 kg and now weighs 68 kg. Since then, Thainá has adopted an active routine, with weight training five times a week and running. “I have a new life. I got a new chance,” she summarizes, highlighting that her new lifestyle currently inspires her children and friends.

Another story of overcoming is lived by Olívia Judá Pethrova dos Santos Pinto, a transgender woman who has been receiving care at HJB for six months, where she is following a protocol with the plastic surgery team for breast surgery. She arrived at the hospital through the Casulo Project in Belém, responsible for outpatient and hospital care for transgender people in the state.
In two years of care, she has already undergone multidisciplinary care in Internal Medicine, endocrinology, proctology, psychiatry, and psychology. At HJB, the care is conducted by the plastic surgery team.
In congratulating the hospital on its 14 years, Olívia Judá emphasizes the importance of humanization: “From reception to the surgical team, everyone embraced my gender identity. This investment in health is a right, and it is gratifying to see the return in such important services, especially for the transgender population. May HJB continue to be an example of welcome and respect,” she pointed out.

On the other side of this assistance scenario, HJB collaborator Eliana Nogueira Siqueira works as a Nursing Technician in the Internal Medicine Clinic of the hospital unit and carries a trajectory marked by dedication and recognition. She joined the hospital four years ago and, with the encouragement of her superiors and colleagues, participated in an internal selection that allowed her to work in the role she always desired.
“I am proud to be HJB. It is an honor to be part of such a talented and welcoming team. I thank God and each one of you for receiving me with open arms, inspiring me to be better every day,” she states.
For the Executive Director of HJB, Giovani Merenda, sharing not only this date but also the results of care for users of the services offered, which are extremely important, even for transforming lives and inspiring family and friends.

“This reflects the commitment to quality in care, aligned with the mission and values of the institution, which prioritizes the life and dignity of users. Our journey in search of continuous improvement is irreversible in respect to the lives of our users. I congratulate each collaborator, past and present, in building the history of HJB.”
The manager also highlights that this is the reward of the multidisciplinary team that drives the achievement of new and greater results in favor of public health in Pará. “The love for the work performed by each collaborator is fundamental to the success of our institution,” emphasized manager Giovani Merenda while extending his thanks for the support of the Government, Sespa, and the National Institute for Social and Human Development (INDSH), which manages HJB.

For eight years, HJB has received the "Gold Seal" certificate for contributing to the reduction of Greenhouse Gas emissions. The management also highlights sustainability actions in environmental protection that are already part of the organizational culture of the institution.
Commemorative program - The commemorative ceremony of the hospital unit's anniversary was organized by the Humanization Working Group (GTH), in partnership with deacon Paulo Portal Melo from the parish of Sanctuary São João Batista and Nossa Senhora das Graças; and saxophonist Geovany Monteiro Moraes, a sergeant in the Brazilian Army, with a performance of religious songs.
The event also included recognition of the work of collaborator Antônio Paulo Colares de Vasconcelos, supervisor of Asset Security, who received a “Certificate of Appreciation” for his dedication and exemplary work in his routine at HJB. At the end, all partners and guests were honored for their presence at the event, which included the participation of the Operational Director of INDSH, José Neto.
