The Pará Hemotherapy and Hematology Center Foundation (Hemopa) registered a 15% increase in blood donations in September compared to the same period in 2024. A total of 9,305 bags were collected, compared to 8,122 the previous year, an increase of 1,183 collections. The result reflects the policy of decentralizing collection and conducting external campaigns in new municipalities of the State.

The collected bags have the potential to generate 37,220 transfusions, benefiting thousands of patients served in the hospital network of Pará. The positive performance maintains the growth curve observed in August, when Hemopa had already registered 9,139 bags, 6% more than in the same period last year.

The president of Hemopa, Paulo Bezerra, emphasized the importance of participation from the Pará society. “This increase reflects greater participation from the population in this gesture of solidarity, a result of our campaigns and the inclusion of new municipalities where external collections had never been conducted before. These significant numbers directly impact the stock and the capacity to meet all transfusion demands in the State. It is always important to reinforce that donation is a gesture of solidarity and should be constant, so that we can safely meet all patients in need,” he stated.

The interiorization of collection continues to advance. In October, Hemopa conducted its first donation campaign in Ourém, in northeastern Pará, exceeding the expected number of bags. The action was organized in partnership with the city hall, Hemonucleus of Capanema, and the Regional Hemocenter of Castanhal, strengthening the Foundation's presence in municipalities that had never received external campaigns.

The mobilization also brought personal stories. Resident Eve de Silva made her first donation during the campaign in Ourém. “It is an act of solidarity that can save many lives. I have always wanted to donate, but I couldn't reach the minimum weight required. When the opportunity arose in my municipality, I made sure to participate,” she shared.

The positive result of September precedes the campaign “At COP30, sustain life, donate blood,” which runs until November 24. The mobilization aims to further boost donation numbers during the major international event that will be held in Belém, reinforcing the importance of permanent solidarity to ensure transfusion coverage across the State's health network.

The donor recruitment manager, Juciara Farias, reinforced that the results are the result of continuous planning. According to her, Hemopa maintains daily internal and external campaigns, with educational actions, lectures, workshops, and partnerships that help strengthen the culture of voluntary donation. These initiatives also organize caravans of donors in support of collections. Interested institutions can contact by phone/WhatsApp (91) 3217-7050 or by email [email protected]
