The Hospital da Mulher do Pará (HMPA) has begun the actions of the "Pink October" campaign, an international movement that raises awareness about the importance of prevention and early diagnosis of breast cancer. To mark the date, the facade of the unit received special pink lighting, a symbol of the campaign and the fight against the disease that most affects women in Brazil and around the world.

According to the general director of HMPA, Nelma Machado, the lighting is a way to raise awareness among patients, companions, and the entire community about the topic. "The pink lights represent not only support for the cause but also an invitation for women to pay attention to their own health, undergoing preventive exams and seeking medical care whenever necessary," highlighted the director.

Nelma Machado also emphasizes that the hospital offers specialized services focused on women's health, including medical consultations and diagnostic exams to promote prevention. "HMPA represents an important advance in comprehensive women's health care in the North region. Our structure was designed to ensure welcoming and qualified care at all stages of a woman's life," she added.

In addition to outpatient care and exams, the hospital has an exclusive gynecological emergency service, prepared to receive cases that present changes in vital signs or severe symptoms, such as intense bleeding, cysts and ovarian abscesses, breast inflammations, severe pelvic pain associated with endometriosis, and genital infections. Still in the line of urgency, the unit is also a reference for immediate care in cases of sexual and domestic violence against women.

The importance of prevention

Early detection of breast cancer significantly increases the chances of cure. Therefore, it is essential for women to keep routine exams up to date, such as mammograms and regular gynecological consultations, in addition to observing possible changes in their breasts and seeking medical attention in the presence of any suspicious signs. Adopting healthy habits, such as a balanced diet, regular physical activity, and reducing alcohol consumption, also contributes to the prevention of the disease.

Services:

To be treated at the Hospital da Mulher do Pará, the patient should initially seek a Basic Health Unit (UBS) or another health unit in the municipality where she resides, or seek medical referral at a Usina da Paz.
