The Integrated Center for Inclusion and Rehabilitation (CIIR), a unit of the State Government linked to the State Department of Public Health (Sespa), has received, for the fourth consecutive year, the Chico Mendes Green Seal, a national certification granted to institutions committed to socio-environmental responsibility.

The recognition, awarded by the Chico Mendes Institute through the Certification Program for Commitment to Socio-environmental Responsibility (Procert), evaluates criteria such as waste management, environmental efficiency, community education, and institutional transparency. This achievement reaffirms CIIR's role as a reference in public policies for rehabilitation and inclusion, combining health care with environmental preservation and social engagement.

The executive director of CIIR, Rejane Xavier, emphasized that the certification is the result of a collective effort. “This seal reaffirms that our sustainability practices are not isolated initiatives, but part of CIIR's institutional mission. It is a commitment that unites professionals, users, and the community,” she stated.

CIIR's sustainability projects and actions

Among the initiatives developed by the institution, five projects and actions stand out for their reach and impact:

ECO CIIR Project - Serves as a guiding axis, integrating all environmental practices of the unit and consolidating a culture of sustainability among employees, users, and the community.

Sensory Garden and Institutional Garden - Maintained in an area of 1,640 m², they produce vegetables without pesticides, distributed in social actions, and serve as a therapeutic and educational resource to encourage healthy habits and strengthen rehabilitation.

Reuse Workshops and Eco-friendly Soap - Teach users, employees, and local residents to transform used cooking oil into soap and to reuse materials for crafts, reducing waste, stimulating creativity, and generating income opportunities.

Selective Collection and Waste Management - Implemented by the unit ensures the correct separation of recyclable materials and promotes ongoing educational campaigns, reducing environmental impacts and encouraging collective participation.

Energy Efficiency and Greenhouse Gas Emissions Inventory - Has already earned CIIR the Gold Seal from the GHG Protocol for transparency in measuring emissions and enabled migration to the free energy market, generating savings and reducing the carbon footprint.

Proximity to the community

However, the initiatives are not restricted to the institutional space. Projects like the Community Garden, which promotes the greening of degraded areas with direct participation from residents of nearby neighborhoods, and activities that bring together users, families, and employees in environmental awareness lectures and workshops, reinforce the unit's bond with society and expand the reach of preservation actions.

Approval - Retired teacher Nadir Pereira da Silva Teixeira, a resident of the Barreiro neighborhood for almost 40 years, highlights the importance of this proximity. “We have needed this partnership for a long time. It is a great opportunity for us to contribute together to maintain the environment,” she stated.

For Denise Morais, president of CIIR's Sustainability Commission, each sustainable action carried out arises from collective involvement. “Our role in the commission is to articulate projects that make a difference within CIIR and also in the community's life. The Green Seal is the reflection of this integrated effort, which transforms good ideas into concrete results.”

Sustainable commitment - With the certification, CIIR consolidates itself as a model in sustainability among public health institutions in the country, reaffirming Pará's commitment to sustainable and inclusive public policies. Beyond the symbolic achievement, the results are concrete: reduced waste generation, provision of healthy food, encouragement of the circular economy, community engagement, and greater energy efficiency.

Still in 2025, the certification will be officially delivered at an event promoted by the Chico Mendes Institute. By winning the Green Seal for the fourth time, CIIR reaffirms that caring for people also means caring for the planet.

Reference - CIIR is a state reference in medium and high complexity assistance to people with visual, physical, auditory, and intellectual disabilities. Access to services is made through referrals from health units, via the Municipal Regulation Center, which directs requests to State Regulation. The user's profile is analyzed by the State Regulation System (SER).

Service: CIIR is an agency of the Government of Pará, managed by the National Institute of Social and Human Development (INDSH), in partnership with the State Department of Public Health (Sespa). The unit is located at Rodovia Arthur Bernardes, 1000, Val-de-Cães neighborhood, in Belém. More information: (91) 4042-2157/ 58/ 59.
