Government of Pará honors the inauguration of Minister Edson Fachin as President of the STF
Governor of Pará attended the ceremony in Brasília, which marked the beginning of the 2025-2027 biennium of the Supreme Court

The Governor of Pará, Helder Barbalho, participated this Monday (29) in Brasília (DF) in the inauguration ceremony of Minister Edson Fachin as President of the Supreme Federal Court (STF) for the 2025-2027 biennium. Fachin also took over the presidency of the National Justice Council (CNJ), with Minister Alexandre de Moraes as Vice President of the STF.
In his inauguration speech, the new president of the Supreme Court reinforced the commitment to democracy and constitutional order. "Our commitment is to the Constitution. I repeat: to Law, what is of Law. To Politics, what is of Politics. The genuine Rule of Law leads to democracy. The government of laws and not the government of violence: this is the democratic imperative capable of stitching up authoritarianism," declared Edson Fachin.
The ceremony brought together authorities from the three branches of government, including the President of the Republic, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, the President of the Senate and the National Congress, Davi Alcolumbre, the President of the Chamber of Deputies, Hugo Motta, and the Attorney General of the Republic, Paulo Gonet. Governors from various states, ministers of state — including the Minister of Cities, Jader Filho, and the other ministers of the STF — also participated.
Governor Helder Barbalho highlighted the importance of harmony among the powers of the republic and the experience of the new president and vice president of the STF.
"The Democratic State of Law needs a strong and harmonious relationship between the powers. And today we witnessed another step in the defense of the Constitution, Justice, and Brazilian democracy. The new president of the STF, Edson Fachin, and the vice president, Alexandre de Moraes, are experienced jurists who have just taken on essential roles for the balance of Brazil. I wish both a great performance, and that we can work together for the maintenance of our democracy"
Institutional continuity
Edson Fachin succeeds Luís Roberto Barroso, who leaves the presidency but remains a member of the Court. During his speech, Fachin emphasized the importance of predictability and harmony among the Powers.
"The country needs predictability in legal relations and trust among the Powers. The Court has the duty to guarantee constitutional order with balance," highlighted the new president of the STF.
