9th Amazon Cinema Showcase brings 60 films to three cities in Pará with free admission
With the support of the Cultural Foundation of Pará, the event runs until next Sunday (28), in Marabá, Parauapebas, and Canaã dos Carajás

The cities of Marabá, Parauapebas, and Canaã dos Carajás are hosting, until September 28, the 9th Amazon Cinema Showcase, with a free program aimed at valuing the audiovisual production of the North region. The event takes place in public spaces of the cities, such as squares and schools, with screenings of short, medium, and feature films, as well as music videos, animations, and discussions with local filmmakers.
Created in 2005, the Showcase is an initiative of the Amazon Brazil Cultural Institute and the production company Mekaron Filme, with resources from the Paulo Gustavo Law, from the Federal Government, and support from the Government of the State of Pará, through the Cultural Foundation of Pará. In its ninth edition, the event has already passed through five countries and twenty cities, screening over 280 films and impacting more than 40,000 people in 20 years of history.
The program started in Marabá from September 18 to 21. It then moved to Canaã dos Carajás and Parauapebas, where it will remain until this Friday (26). From 26 to 28, it returns to Marabá with special screenings of shorts and music videos integrated into the program of the Marabá Jazz Festival.

According to Eduardo Souza, coordinator and idealizer of the project, the proposal is to democratize access to Amazonian audiovisual and stimulate dialogue with the local audience: “We want to take Amazonian cinema beyond traditional theaters and reach communities that rarely have access to this type of content. The Showcase seeks to increase the visibility of regional production, build audiences, stimulate partnerships, and foster exchanges with other cultural initiatives.”
Award-winning films and thematic sessions
Among the highlights of the program are titles such as “The Fall of the Sky,” by Eryk Rocha; “Secrets of Putumayo,” by Aurélio Michiles; “Amazon, The New Minamata?”, by Jorge Bodanzky; “There Will Be No More History Without Us,” by Priscila Brasil; “Amazon Groove,” by Bruno Murtinho; and the award-winning “Boiuna,” by Adriana de Farias, winner of three Kikitos de Ouro at the 2025 Gramado Festival.
Another highlight is the documentary "Mestre Damasceno – The Journey of an AfroMarajoara,” by Guto Nunes, a posthumous tribute to Mestre Damasceno, a reference in Amazonian popular culture.
In addition to regular screenings, the program includes educational actions and special partnerships. In collaboration with the Museum of the Person, the Indigenous Lives Showcase will be presented, bringing together 12 shorts about different indigenous communities in Brazil. The AnimArte Festival contributes with the Traveling AnimArte Session, which features 20 national and international animations aimed at children.

Culture, education, and accessibility
The executive producer of the Showcase, Júlia Garcia, emphasizes the uniqueness of this edition: “It is the first time that the event takes place in these three cities, and it is always a pleasure to expand the horizons of this project that is based on itinerancy, accessibility, and social inclusion. The activities will occupy cultural, social, and educational environments, seeking to reach diverse audiences.”
The curation brings together works that address themes such as the environment, traditions of indigenous peoples, quilombola and riverside communities, popular manifestations, historical facts, and other expressions of the cultural multiplicity of the Amazon.
The showcase also has the support of institutions such as Sesc Marabá, Museum of the Person, AnimArte Festival, CasaLab Creative Hub, TheRoque Produções, Marabá Jazz Festival, Municipal Chamber of Marabá, Cultural House of Canaã dos Carajás, Cultural Center of Parauapebas, Public Library of Marabá, among other local entities and collectives.
