"I learned that we have to be very careful and brush our teeth. I didn't know that the bacteria from the teeth can go into our blood and cause other diseases, for the heart, for the head, and that the health of the teeth and mouth is related to the health of the whole body. So this service they provided was wonderful because many times in our municipality, in our city, it's difficult. We go through SUS, it takes a long time, and there are private options, but they are always expensive," declared Mrs. Rosivalda Pinto from the municipality of Mocajuba, accompanying her daughter, a patient who suffered a scalping accident and is being treated at Santa Casa.

Rosivalda and other companions, patients, and staff from the Acolher Space participated in a morning of care for well-being and oral health that included lectures on dental hygiene for adults and playful activities aimed at raising children's awareness on the topic, in addition to guidance and prophylactic treatments such as cleaning and fluoride application, promoted by dental students from Estácio University in Belém.

"Our goal here in the action is to provide education in oral health, to convey the understanding that brushing, that a simple act of brushing the teeth, using dental floss correctly, prevents tooth loss and prevents diseases and other problems," stated student Luziane Ribeiro.

In addition to the oral health action, the institution distributed brushing kits and provided services with massage therapists, dynamics, and games coordinated by physical education professionals, distributed gifts, and prepared a special snack for the participants.

"Santa Casa is a reference in the care of scalping victims, and we have as a principle to work on the completeness of care for each user who arrives here, among the scalping victims and other patients from the other services of Santa Casa. And to ensure this completeness, partnerships are fundamental in ensuring care for these other demands of our patients," concludes the coordinator of the Acolher Space, Luzia Matos.

Acolher Space - Created in 2006, the Acolher Space operates at Santa Casa and provides shelter and psychosocial support to scalping victims and their companions, among other target groups of the service. Currently, the capacity of the Acolher Space is 32 people.
