In this month of September, when actions related to Patient Safety are reinforced through the Orange September campaign, the Emergency Room Dr. Roberto Macedo (PSRM), in Belém, strengthens the implementation of the 6 International Patient Safety Goals in the unit, reaffirming the commitment to the quality of care provided to the population.

The Patient Safety Goals aim for the continuous improvement of service quality through the implementation and consolidation of safety protocols. Only this year, about 450 professionals have been trained to provide safe assistance - a number equivalent to more than 70% of the total professionals in direct and indirect assistance to the user.

A quiz on topics related to the international Patient Safety goals engaged the professionals

World Day - To reinforce the importance of consolidating the Safety Culture, on September 17, the Patient Quality and Safety Center (NQSP) promoted an action reiterating patient safety as an inseparable factor from the quality of health care, including a quiz among professionals in direct and indirect assistance, exchanging knowledge and experiences on the topic.

According to nurse Lívia Palheta, coordinator of the NQSP, the application of the International Patient Safety Goals is essential to qualify health assistance, reducing the risks of incidents and preventing avoidable harm.

“We emphasize the need for standardized practices, also known as International Patient Safety Goals, defined by the World Health Organization (WHO), aiming to reduce risks and harm in health care, which include correct patient identification, effective communication, safety in medication prescription and administration, safe surgery, fall prevention, and LP. These actions strengthen the Safety Culture, promote public trust in health services, and contribute to better clinical outcomes, aligning with WHO's global guidelines,” informed Lívia Palheta.

World Patient Safety Day was celebrated at PSRM

Safe assistance - The application of safety protocols has an impact on the results of care with humanized attention and the efficiency of the services provided, emphasizing the safety of emergency and urgent users, whether in Adult or Pediatric Emergency Care, and also in Inpatient Units, Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and Surgical Center.

Gustavo Ramos: 'quality care'

Gustavo Ramos, a resident of the São Brás neighborhood, a chronic renal patient who has been hospitalized at PSRM for three months, said that “I already knew that the hospital worked with excellence, but I was unaware of the reason. Now I know that these goals are responsible for this quality care. It is very important to feel safe in a hospital, and to have professionals who are always very attentive, like those who work here in the State Emergency Room.”

Care data - Only in 2025, from January to September 22, among the nearly 800 thousand general attendances, 83,697 emergency and urgent attendances, 5,157 hospitalizations, and 3,429 surgeries stand out, among the services available for more than 3 million people. This month, the User Service (SAU) and the unit's Ombudsman completed one year, with a recorded approval rating of 98% from hospital users, recorded in August.

Managers responsible for direct and indirect assistance to the population at PSRM

According to the Care Director, Aristônico Rodrigues, patient safety is one of the fundamental pillars of care in a modern hospital. “The International Patient Safety Goals represent a commitment to risk reduction, error prevention, and the promotion of more efficient health care for human beings. They are technical guidelines that represent a culture of care, respect, and responsibility,” emphasized the manager.

“The application of the 6 Safety Goals in the daily health assistance ensures that every person seeking care is treated with dignity and safety, so that care is patient-centered, and they are seen as a unique individual,” stressed the general director of PSRM, Carlos Vinícius Ribeiro Quadros.
