Hospital Jean Bitar prepares a gathering space for users and staff
The location aims to function as a meeting point to enhance the well-being and health of staff, users, and companions

With the aim of improving the well-being and health of staff, users, and companions, the management of Hospital Jean Bitar (HJB), in Belém, presented on Monday (22), in an experimental phase, the Gathering Space with over 90m², which combines humanization and sustainability in the hospital environment.
Shaded with native and ornamental plants, furniture for seating and leisure, with support from tables with sun umbrellas and park benches, the new space will also host meetings, training sessions, humanization actions, and even therapies with users, such as physiotherapy sessions.

Approval - Débora Evelyn Lima da Costa, 38, a teacher from Marabá, who is receiving care for bariatric surgery, upon arriving for another appointment, encountered the Gathering Space on the same floor and approved the initiative.
“It’s great, very beautiful, with natural ventilation and plants. It created a pleasant environment. It gave a sense of more humanization to the hospital. And, besides that, the space is lovely for taking beautiful photos. I love posting on Instagram, so I’m going to make sure to take several pictures here because it’s very Instagrammable,” she jokes, highlighting that the place also fosters new friendships.

The collaborator and Human Resources (HR) supervisor at HJB, Clara Saldanha, did not hide her satisfaction in being part of the project. “This space was designed for the health of our patients and companions and, mainly, for our staff, because we also need to take care of those who care. Participating in this achievement and seeing this new space become a reality is truly gratifying,” emphasized Clara, who chairs the Sustainability Committee.
Giovani Merenda, Executive Director of HJB and the project's creator, explained that the space arose from the idea of transforming an unused terrace into a pleasant and functional green area. “Our goal was to create an outdoor environment to be used by both patients and staff, whether for moments of rest, meetings, or training. It is an initiative that reinforces our commitment to quality of life, humanization of care, and strengthens the need to work on environmental issues.”

The manager highlighted that the delivery of the new area will be accompanied by an experimental period, during which visitors will be heard about their satisfaction with the project. The goal is to transform visiting moments into experiences of rest, leisure, learning, and interaction between people and the environment, ensuring that the space meets the needs and expectations of its users.
The new space was presented at an event, attended by the president of the National Institute for Social and Human Development (INDSH), José Carlos Rizoli; the Northern Operational Director, José Neto; and other directors, managers, and professional teams.

Rizoli congratulated the institution's management and all those who participated in the project, which transformed the environment to welcome its visitors, including patients and companions.
“Congratulations to everyone involved. This project aligns with our slogan, which is ‘Respect for life,’ valuing and protecting human life. The project is wonderful and is committed to treating everyone with dignity and respect.”

The Gathering Space is expected to be officially delivered by the end of this year.
