8th Edition of the Amazon Singing Meeting starts this Friday (26)
'Encanta' will offer a program with a masterclass by soprano Carmen Monarcha, in addition to free concerts and the performance of a musical in Belém
The Amazon Singing Meeting (ENCANTA) is part of the major annual events of the Carlos Gomes Foundation. With a free program focused on musical theater and opera, the event will take place from September 26 to 30 at the Carlos Gomes State Institute and the Church of Santo Alexandre. This year, a masterclass will be offered by soprano Carmen Monarcha, in addition to concerts and the performance of the musical Beauty and the Beast.
On Friday (26), ENCANTA will kick off its program with Encantacadêmico, in the Ettore Bosio Room at the Carlos Gomes State Institute. In addition to the discussion forum, the audience will also be able to check out presentations of academic works on singing, voice, and staging with the guests of this edition.
Encantacadêmico will feature speakers: Professor Bárbara Gibson (UFPA), Professor Dione Colares (Emufpa), Prof. Leonardo Coelho (Emufpa), Prof. Eduardo Nascimento (IECG), and Prof. Pedro Messias (IECG). According to Prof. Pedro Messias, the general, musical, and artistic director of the event, "This year, we have expanded Encantacadêmico, which will be held for the third time within ENCANTA," explains Pedro Messias.
“We invited special speakers from the scenic and vocal area, who will present their works, along with the singing professor from IECG, Eduardo Nascimento, in addition to my participation and that of playwright Bárbara Gibson,” emphasizes Professor Pedro.
On the second day of the 8th ENCANTA (27), participants will meet the Pará soprano Carmen Monarcha in the Masterclass on Technique and Interpretation for Opera and Musical Theater. Online registrations are free and are open until September 25.
Special Presentations
The artistic presentations of ENCANTA are always highly anticipated by the audience. This year, the opening concert will be performed by the Carlos Gomes Symphony Orchestra, featuring soprano Carmen Monarcha and pianist Adriana Azulay, on September 28, at 7 PM, at the Church of Santo Alexandre, with free admission.
On the 29th and 30th, it will be time for the much-anticipated performance of the musical Beauty and the Beast, with a staging adapted by the Opera Studio Extension Project (IECG), at 7 PM, at the Church of Santo Alexandre, with free admission. The church doors will remain open until 7:15 PM.
The students from the Opera Studio and Carlos Gomes Symphony Orchestra projects, who will perform at the Church of Santo Alexandre, follow a routine of constant rehearsals. “We have weekly rehearsals where we develop and deepen the technical aspects of the students based on instrumental and vocal practice, that is, the students' development comes from the repertoire itself,” comments Professor Pedro Messias, who coordinates both groups at the Carlos Gomes State Institute.
Joel Costa, technical director of events at the Carlos Gomes Foundation, notes the importance of the contact between students and the audience with renowned guests in the fields of singing, performing arts, and instrumental music. “Considering the level of the artists this year, everyone can expect high-level musical performances, in addition to all the pedagogical work done during the week of ENCANTA. Everyone is invited,” emphasizes the director.

The 8th edition of the Amazon Singing Meeting is organized by the Carlos Gomes Foundation, through the Opera Studio extension project of the Carlos Gomes State Institute. ENCANTA is aimed at training lyric singers and conducting instrumental concerts, opera presentations, and musical theater productions.
