The importance of tree preservation for the health of the planet was addressed in activities promoted by the Sustainability Commission (CS) of the Dr. Roberto Macedo Emergency Room (PRSM) in Belém this Monday (22), in commemoration of Tree Day - September 21. The program included the distribution of seeds of ipê and jacarandá mimoso at the receptions for patients and companions, as well as the planting of fruit trees from the region, including açaí and cupuaçu species, in an outdoor area of the unit.

“Trees are a source of life for the planet, as they purify the air, balance the climate, provide food, and bring healing. By delivering ipê seeds, the tree symbol of Brazil, and planting Amazonian fruit trees through the Pomar da Vida Project, an initiative of the CS at our Emergency Room, we sow the future and reinforce our cause for sustainability,” highlighted the president of the CS, Rayane Pereira.

According to Lucas Morais, from Oeiras do Pará, a municipality in the Marajó Integration Region, who was waiting for a family member in the reception, said that “people need trees for many things related to survival. Where I live, riverside dwellers need fish for survival, and without trees to prevent erosion and siltation, and to filter impurities with their roots, rivers can disappear. This action demonstrated that with a little seed, many trees and fruits will grow, which will not only help humans but will also help other living beings, such as animals, and the entire food chain of which we are also a part.”

Pomar da Vida - The seedlings of fruit trees planted today by members of the Sustainability Commission continued the planting activities under the Pomar da Vida Project, which has been underway at PSRM since the beginning of this year. The Project focuses on the cultivation of Amazonian fruit trees and started with the planting of açaí and cocoa, but already has plans to expand planting to other native species. The Project seeks to enhance local biodiversity, aiming to make the Dr. Roberto Macedo Emergency Room a more welcoming and healthy space for patients, professionals, and visitors, reinforcing the connection between health and sustainability.

“The Pomar da Vida, with the action carried out today, connects directly to some Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially regarding health and well-being, reminding us that the health of the planet and ours are inseparable, in addition to assisting in the action against climate change, by promoting environmental resilience and protecting Amazonian biodiversity,” informed the general director of PSRM, Carlos Vinícius Ribeiro Quadros.
