The government of Pará, through the State Secretariat for Social Assistance, Labor, Employment and Income (Seaster), held, for the first time, from September 15 to 18, the meeting of farmers from the Food Acquisition Program (PAA), in the indigenous modality, in the municipality of Oriximiná, in the integration region of Baixo Amazonas, with the participation of the indigenous communities in the region.

The meeting included the exchange of experiences, guidance on the implementation of the program, and assistance for the indigenous communities present in the region. The action involved the participation of technicians from the Food and Nutritional Security Directorate (Disan) of Seaster.

On this occasion, equipment was also delivered to support the marketing of indigenous production: two trucks with cold chambers, pallets, scales, and other materials that will ensure better conditions for the transportation and commercialization of agricultural products, boosting the economy, bringing stability, and strengthening food security for the benefiting farmers.

“This was a very important event because it is the first time that Pará hosts the meeting of PAA farmers in the indigenous modality. In addition to presenting the conception and functioning of the program, we made fundamental deliveries to support the farmers, such as refrigerated trucks and equipment that will allow the marketing of production, ensuring income, dignity, and better living conditions for indigenous producers,” highlighted the director of Disan, Nazaré Costa.

The PAA represents one of the main public policies for strengthening family farming and combating food and nutritional insecurity in Brazil. Established in 2023, the program has become part of the national agenda of permanent public policies.

“My name is Roque, I am the president of the association and I am also an anthropologist. I came to thank the state government, Seaster, and the teams that came to deliver our truck; this was very good and important. I am very happy and want to continue working with you, united, and show the public policies for our community and the indigenous people here,” said Roque Wai Wai, president of the Association of Indigenous Peoples Trombetas Mapuera (APTIMA).

“With the execution of this act, the government of Pará reaffirms its commitment to strengthening indigenous family farming, promoting social inclusion, income generation, and food security for communities throughout the state, as we continue with our planning to expand the program, and soon new regions will be contemplated,” said Inocencio Gasparim, head of Seaster.
