Nazaré Festivity projects over 100 thousand tourists and R$ 210 million in revenues in 2025
Research indicates sustainable growth of the religious and cultural manifestation that consolidates as a positive driving force for the state economy

The Círio de Nossa Senhora de Nazaré, an intangible cultural heritage of Brazil, is expected to attract around 100 thousand tourists and generate approximately US$ 39 million (R$ 210 million according to the current exchange rate) in revenues in 2025. This estimate comes from a study conducted by the Tourism Secretariat of Pará (Setur) in partnership with Dieese (Inter-Union Department of Statistics and Socioeconomic Studies). The projected data indicates a growth of 12.5% compared to the scenario of the festivity in 2024.
The survey consolidates the two weeks of the Nazarene festivity as one of the main engines of the economy of Pará and the main state tourism product in the national and international market, particularly in the segments of religious and cultural tourism.
"The Círio de Nazaré is, at the same time, a religious heritage and a positive driving force for our economy. The numbers demonstrate the sustainable growth of tourism in Pará and the strength of the Círio as a factor of attraction for increasing tourist flow and generating revenues for investments and economic and social development of the Pará territory," notes the state secretary of Tourism (Setur), Eduardo Costa.
Costa adds: “The Círio is already considered our high season in tourism. The event also serves as a showcase for Pará, enhancing the international visibility of the capital and strengthening its position as a strategic tourist destination in the Amazon.”
More than half (52%) of tourists stay between 1 and 5 days
In 2024, the average individual spending of tourists was around R$ 2 thousand, distributed over an average stay of seven days. Most tourists stayed between 1 and 5 days (52%) or from 6 to 10 days (37%).
The research also revealed that most tourists came from neighboring states and major centers in the country: Maranhão (11.1%), São Paulo (8.8%), Rio de Janeiro (7.8%), Amazonas (6.5%), and Amapá (6%) were the main source markets for tourists. Among the visitors, 84% were professionally active, with a highlight on teachers, public servants, entrepreneurs, doctors, and lawyers.
The most used accommodations were hotels (39.3%), followed by relatives' houses (33.1%) and friends' houses (19.8%). Regarding the main means of transportation used, airplanes accounted for 75.6% of arrivals in Belém, while travel buses represented 14.2%.
The study also points out the highlights and challenges in organizing the festivity as a tourist attraction. Religiosity, Pará's hospitality, gastronomy, natural beauty, and Pará's culture were the aspects most highly rated by tourists, while areas for improvement include urban cleanliness, mobility/traffic, security, and public transportation options.
Study indicates that 97% of visitors want to return to Pará
Loyalty is another striking data point of the Círio. At least 97% of visitors stated their intention to return to experience it again. Additionally, 36% of respondents expressed interest in exploring other destinations in Pará.
Among the most cited places that spark tourists' curiosity are destinations like Salinópolis (20%), Mosqueiro (13.5%), Marajó Island (12%), Combu Island (7%), and Alter do Chão (5%). The number reinforces the potential of the Círio as a gateway to regional tourism.
With a cumulative growth of 22% in the last decade, the Círio de Nazaré reaffirms its importance as a cultural and religious manifestation, but also as an economic factor. For 2025, the expectation of increased visitor flow reinforces the need for investments in urban infrastructure, mobility, security, and tourism services.
