The State Narcotics Division (DENARC), with support from the River Police Station (DFLU) and the Police Intelligence Center (NIP), arrested a suspect of drug trafficking in the act this Sunday (21) and seized 120 bricks of a substance similar to cocaine on a vessel in the municipality of Salinópolis.

The investigations began in early September, following information about a criminal association that was using river routes for drug trafficking. Preliminary investigations indicated that the organization planned to transport a large quantity of narcotics, originating from Belém or Salinópolis. Based on intelligence work, the police identified the suspicious vessel.

“In early September, our intelligence team identified suspicious movements and began to monitor the vessel. The action was carefully planned to ensure the safety of everyone and the success of the operation,” explained delegate David Bahury, acting director of DENARC.

On September 17, the teams received information that the vessel was navigating the river and began monitoring it from a distance. Two days later, on the 19th, the vessel was located and boarded at a point in the river near the city of Salinópolis. On board were six crew members, including the suspect identified as responsible for the illegal cargo.

Inspection - During the inspection, the police found a false bottom at the stern of the vessel, beneath the kitchen stove. In the compartment, three burlap sacks and two travel bags containing materials wrapped in adhesive tape and with a white substance were seized, totaling 120 bricks of cocaine.

The captain of the vessel stated that the trip aimed to transport fuel to another vessel in Maranhão and denied knowledge of the drug's presence. However, the other crew members confirmed that the service had been contracted by the suspect, who also provided navigation instructions. This confirmation was reinforced after analyzing the messages on the suspect's cell phone.

“The approach required precision and planning. The teams acted in an integrated manner, intercepting the vessel at the right moment to prevent the narcotic from reaching its final destination,” highlighted delegate Renan Andrew, acting director of DFLU.

In addition to the drugs, the police seized a suitcase containing a metal detector, satellite phone charger, tracker, communication device manuals, a cell phone, clothes, personal items, and documents.

The suspect, the drugs, and the seized materials were presented at the DENARC headquarters for the necessary procedures.
