“Crossings” is now available for visitation at Theodoro Braga Gallery

The Theodoro Braga Gallery, in Belém, opened this week the exhibition “Crossings” by artist Marcone Moreira, winner of the Branco de Melo Award 2025, promoted by the Cultural Foundation of Pará (FCP). The work marks the artist's return to the capital of Pará seven years after his last solo exhibition in the city in 2018.

“Crossings” brings together objects made from boat wood, broken nautical propellers during use, photos, and paintings. It was the apparent disparity between the items that inspired the artist to name the new work.

“The title, 'Crossings', arises from this plurality of forms of expression, from productions of different times, where through drawing, photography, sculpture, and various traces, there is this intertwining, this point of contact, the interest in the riverside dynamics that permeates the entire set of works, generating a guiding thread that interlinks the whole,” explains Marcone Moreira.

The curation of the works was done by researcher and sociologist Marisa Mokarzel. She reveals that the work was constructed with the purpose of exhibiting a critical dialogue about the developments that the artist has and his multiple ways of making and telling the art of a people.

"And I was impressed by his maturity, how he loved that place, how he wanted to show me the points of that cultural place and how he wanted me to also know the artists and how aware he was of his work," details Marisa Mokarzel.

Opening - “Crossings” arrived at Theodoro Braga Gallery on the night of this Thursday (18) and, during the opening, the present audience participated in a conversation with the artist.

Ana Carolina Mata took the opportunity to "rediscover" the arts

Ana Carolina Mata, a social worker and photographer, took the opportunity to rediscover the arts. “Being here is a new discovery of the arts. And it is very valid to have contact with the artist so that we can immerse ourselves in Marcone's work,” says Ana Carolina Mata.

Notice - Marcone is one of the artists contemplated by Notice 007/2025 - Branco de Melo to support artistic production, carried out by the Cultural Foundation of Pará with the purpose of supporting artistic and cultural productions in the state of Pará.

The prize awarded to selected artists is R$ 25,000. In addition to the cash prize, the notice provides access to the 2025 schedule of Theodoro Braga Gallery, Benedito Nunes Gallery, and Ruy Meira Gallery, at no cost to the winner.

The selected projects bring innovation and utilize various languages such as drawings, photographs, paintings, among others, to express the contemporary art of Pará culture.

Eliane Moura, manager of Theodoro Braga Gallery and Benedito Nunes Gallery, highlights the importance of the notice for the democratization of access to the arts. “The Foundation has, over the years, been concerned with fostering art from its moment of creation, from the artist to the end, even to the student from the school who comes here, who comes to appreciate, who comes to have this contact with culture and art. All of this for free,” reports Eliane Moura.
