Vice-Governor Hana Ghassan talks to a resident benefited by the Sua Casa program in Belém

Maria Santinha, Raimunda Nascimento, and Marielza Monteiro are three women over 60 years old. This Friday (19), the three and more than 620 people achieved the greatest dream of anyone who heads a household: the achievement of dignified housing, when all they had to build their homes was faith and hope, as the three women recounted.

The realization of the dream occurred during the delivery ceremony of the Sua Casa housing benefit, held at the Usina da Paz Guamá in Belém, with the participation of Vice-Governor Hana Ghassan.

Vice-Governor Hana Ghassan made a point of personally delivering the housing aid at the Usina da Paz Guamá

“I want to express my joy of being here, delivering this benefit that will ensure the renovation of each of your homes, and to advise you to budget before saying that the purchase is with the Sua Casa check, so that no one can charge more for the construction materials bought with this benefit, and it can be used in the best possible way for the improvement of your housing,” advised the Vice-Governor of Pará.

The Sua Casa Program is a public policy of the State Government aimed at the construction, renovation, expansion, improvement, or adaptation of housing units. The initiative also guarantees resources for hiring the labor of the mason who performs the service. The amount for each family can reach R$ 21 thousand.

The Sua Casa is not a loan; it is a donation made by the Government of Pará. At the time of purchase at the construction material store, the full amount received from the sale through Sua Casa is deducted from the ICMS (Tax on Operations Related to the Circulation of Goods and on the Provision of Interstate and Intermunicipal Transport Services and Communication) that companies pay to the Government.

Any store registered with the CNPJ (National Register of Legal Entities) can participate in the program. Since its creation in 2019, Sua Casa has benefited more than 29 thousand families just in Belém. In Pará, there are more than 150 thousand families, an investment in housing exceeding R$ 1.3 billion.

Marielza Monteiro says she is unemployed and her husband is too, and without the housing check, she would never be able to renovate her house. “I always dreamed of my house being completely finished, good to live in, and I never had the means to work on it, but now I know I will make it beautiful,” she said.

Resident Maria Santinha: "I am a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and many times I lost hope. Now, it is here in my hand," she said

Maria Santinha said she hoped to receive the check to finish her house. “It was my dream to be able to finish my house, as I am a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and many times I lost hope, but now my check is here in my hand, and my renovation will happen,” she celebrated.

Raimunda Nascimento is a housekeeper and spoke of her happiness in receiving the second phase of the benefit, which is ensuring the reconstruction of her house that caught fire. “I did the first part with the first check, but I needed to finish my work, because without the finishing, my house is just dust; now I will plaster, paint, and make my house very beautiful,” she said happily.

The event also featured the presence of the president of Cohab, Manoel Pioneiro, who reported that there was a delivery of amounts related to two phases of the benefit. “We are delivering more than 550 checks from the first phase and more than 71 related to the second phase, which guarantees the completion of the works of the own house, in an action with the presence of our Vice-Governor Hana, who is an tireless woman in the fight to improve the lives of families throughout Pará,” pointed out Pioneiro.

How to participate - The Sua Casa Program primarily serves families living in social risk situations, such as extreme poverty, victims of disasters (fires, floods, storms, collapses, etc.), as well as the elderly, families of people with disabilities (PwDs), among other technical criteria.

To receive the benefit, candidates must meet the criteria established by law to be registered. After registration, Cohab gradually selects the registered individuals based on the order of priorities set forth in the Program's guidelines.

As candidates are selected, the engineering team of the Company begins the evaluation and diagnosis process of the homes. The next phase consists of the socioeconomic analysis by the Social Assistance sector of Cohab, at which point the technicians will verify the actual social condition of the candidates.
