Housewife Maria de Nazaré Quaresma, 63, from the municipality of Igarapé-Miri, in northeastern Pará, shared the transformation in her routine after surgery to remove kidney stones at the Hospital da Mulher do Pará (HMPA). "I had been waiting for this surgery for a year and six months. The care here is very good, among the best I have ever experienced. The professionals are cheerful, lift our spirits, and pay attention to everything," she said, emotionally.

Maria de Nazaré underwent surgery at the hospital

In just six months of operation, the hospital has already established itself as a reference in comprehensive care for women's health. Since its opening on March 8, the unit has recorded over 160,000 appointments, including consultations, exams, surgeries, and 24-hour assistance in emergency care for cases of domestic violence, sexual violence, and gynecological emergencies.

A reference in the North region, the hospital brings together more than 20 medical specialties that ensure a complete line of care, including gynecology, mastology, urology, proctology, pain clinic, cardiology, clinical and surgical neurology, endocrinology, plastic and reconstructive surgery, orthopedics, geriatrics, dermatology, physiotherapy, nutrition, and psychology. Since March, HMPA has conducted over 26,000 consultations.

Another highlight of this six-month period is that more than 130,000 laboratory and imaging tests have been performed, particularly focusing on tests aimed at diagnosing endometriosis, a chronic inflammatory disease that affects more than 7 million Brazilian women of reproductive age.

Surgical procedures

With a profile for medium and high complexity, HMPA has surpassed 3,500 surgical interventions in the first six months. The majority of procedures were general surgery (37.38%), followed by gynecological (33.83%) and urological (9.29%).

Another example is that of saleswoman Maria Luísa Silva, 65, showing the impact of the unit on patients' lives. After undergoing urological surgery, she celebrated her recovery: "I am great, I received good care from everyone. I even mention it to some people. I am very happy to have been able to have my surgery here," she reported.

Urgency and emergency

The Hospital da Mulher was the first in the North region to offer specialized support to victims of domestic and sexual violence, with an innovative structure that includes the Lilac Room and the first occurrence registration totem integrated with the Virtual Women's Police Station, providing safe support and total discretion.

Additionally, the unit provides exclusive care in cases of gynecological emergencies, accompanied by changes in vital signs, presenting with intense bleeding, cysts and ovarian abscesses, breast inflammation, severe pelvic pain associated with endometriosis, and genital infections.

Commitment to women's health

For the general director of HMPA, Nelma Machado, the results of the first six months confirm the importance of the hospital for public health in the State. "This is a historic milestone for Pará. The Hospital da Mulher was born with the purpose of comprehensively caring for women's health and, in these months, has been providing humanized, specialized, and high-quality care for thousands of women. Our commitment is to continue expanding access and ensuring that each patient finds here support, treatment, and hope," concluded the manager.

Service:

To be treated at the Hospital da Mulher, the patient must first seek a Basic Health Unit (UBS) or another health unit in the municipality where she resides, or seek a medical referral at a Usina da Paz. The Hospital da Mulher do Pará is located at Avenida Gentil Bittencourt, 2175, São Brás neighborhood, in Belém.
