"Boiuna" is the acclaimed Pará short film at this year's Gramado Film Festival

The Cine Líbero Luxardo, in Belém, begins its new programming this Thursday (11), at 4 PM, with a diverse selection of films that promise to please all tastes. The cinema will host a Spanish Film Showcase; the premiere of the documentary "3 Obás de Xangô"; the pre-premiere of "Malês", a film starring Camila and Antônio Pitanga; and a special session with a debate following the screening of "Boiuna", a standout Pará short film at the Gramado festival. The full programming can be checked at the end of the article.

3 Obás de Xangô is another highlight of the Líbero Luxardo programming

Among the highlights is the premiere of the highly anticipated documentary "3 Obás de Xangô", directed by Sérgio Machado, which addresses the friendship between three icons of Bahian culture: Jorge Amado, Dorival Caymmi, and Carybé. The film is a tribute to the trio who, in the 1940s, helped shape the imagination of Bahia and Brazil with their works that blend realism and street life. Narrated by actor Lázaro Ramos, "3 Obás de Xangô" won the Grande Otelo Award for Best Documentary Feature, and has also been awarded at festivals such as Tiradentes and the Rio Festival.

Another major highlight of the programming is the pre-premiere of "Malês", a film directed by Antônio Pitanga, which arrives at Cine Líbero Luxardo on the 16th at 7:30 PM, and will feature the presence of Camila and Antônio Pitanga for a debate after the session.

"Malês" tells the story of the revolt led by enslaved people during the Brazilian imperial period

The film narrates the journey of two young Muslims kidnapped from Africa and brought to Brazil as enslaved people, being cruelly separated by fate during the Malê Revolt, the largest insurrection of enslaved people in the country's history. With a star-studded cast, including names like Camila Pitanga, Rocco Pitanga, and Patrícia Pillar, the feature has already been showcased at important festivals, such as the Rio Festival and the São Paulo International Film Festival.

"Boiuna" won several awards at Gramado

The programming also includes the screening of the short film "Boiuna", a major winner at the 2025 Gramado Film Festival. The film, which revisits the legend of the Cobra Grande from a contemporary perspective, won three important awards, including Best Direction for Adriana de Faria, Best Actress (shared between Naieme and Jhanyffer Santos), and Best Cinematography for Thiago Pelaes.

Produced in Pará and with a predominantly local team, "Boiuna" stands out for its magical realism, blending ancestry, resistance, and the protagonism of Amazonian women. The film was shot in locations such as Benevides, Benfica, and the Island of Combu, in the Metropolitan Region of Belém.

Additionally, the cinema will also open its doors for a Spanish Film Showcase, from September 11 to 15, featuring a selection of award-winning films acclaimed by European critics. With screenings always at 5:45 PM (except on Thursday, the 11th, when it will premiere at 7:20 PM, and will feature the presence of the minister counselor of the Spanish Embassy, and on Saturday, the 13th, which will have a screening at 5:35 PM). In this showcase, the audience will be able to check out productions such as "El 47", by Marcel Barrena, "Vantagens de Viajar de Trem", by Aritz Moreno, and "A Estrela Azul", by Javier Macipe.

"The Last Blue", a successful double feature that will be screened during the programming

"The Last Blue" is heading into its third week of screening

Going into its third week of screening, the feature is set in an industrial city in the Amazon and tells the story of Tereza, a 77-year-old woman who, after being forced to move to a housing colony for the elderly, decides to embark on a journey through the rivers of the Amazon to fulfill her last wish.

Winner of the Silver Bear at the Berlin Film Festival, "The Last Blue" combines social criticism, reflections on aging, and fantastic elements, reaffirming the provocative style of Gabriel Mascavo, already known for films like "Boi Neon" and "Divino Amor".
