Pará promotes training on leprosy for Primary Care professionals
Three training courses on leprosy will be offered by Sespa, in partnership with ETSUS, in September and October
The State Department of Public Health of Pará (Sespa), through the Health Surveillance Directorate, the State Coordination of the Leprosy Control Program, and the Dr. Marcello Candia Reference Unit in Sanitary Dermatology, in partnership with the SUS Technical School (ETSUS), will conduct three training courses on leprosy in September and October.
This action is part of the "Purple January from January to January" campaign, encouraged by the Ministry of Health (MS) and Sespa, which reinforces the importance of comprehensive care for people affected by the disease.
The courses are aimed at physiotherapists, occupational therapists, nurses, and doctors working in Primary Health Care (APS). The goal is to strengthen early diagnosis, ensure timely treatment, and enhance the quality of patient follow-up, qualifying the Health Care Network throughout the state.
Importance of training - Leprosy is an infectious, chronic, and ancient disease that can cause physical disabilities and permanent sequelae. Therefore, investing in the continuous education of health professionals is essential to reduce impacts and expand access to appropriate care.
The courses will have a workload of 40 hours and will offer certification. The program will be divided between theoretical classes at ETSUS and practical activities at the Dr. Marcello Candia Reference Unit in Sanitary Dermatology.
