On the afternoon of this Sunday (7), integrated teams from the Candiru Base, linked to the Secretary of Public Security and Social Defense (Segup), carried out the seizure and rescue of 20 wild birds of the species "Canário da Terra" on a vessel heading to the city of Santarém. The teams also seized 103 rounds of .22 caliber ammunition. The action is part of routine inspections carried out by integrated agent teams in the Óbidos region, in the Amazon River strait.

"The actions taken by the agents at the Candiru Base, located in Óbidos, have shown continuous productivity, both in terms of drug seizures and in capturing fugitives and actions related to environmental crimes, as in this case, where the birds found were being illegally transported to Santarém. Once again, we emphasize that the strategy initiated by the Integrated Floating Bases, such as the Antônio Lemos Base in Marajó, is precisely to inhibit crime and intensify inspections on the rivers, as with these daily actions we can identify crime suspects, capture those who are being sought by justice, as well as combat environmental criminals who use waterways as escape routes and transport for illicit cargo," emphasized the head of Segup, Ualame Machado.

Seizure and rescue

This Sunday’s action was the result of a joint effort between agents from the Public Security River Group (Gflu) and a team from the Military Police, who were conducting routine inspections in the river network of Óbidos and approached a vessel named N/M Anna Karoline VII, which was coming from the city of Manaus heading to Santarém, Pará. During the approach, a passenger was identified as transporting 20 wild birds of the species "Canário da Terra", as well as 103 rounds of .22 caliber ammunition, and also accessories and instruments for maintaining the birds. The birds were sent to the Municipal Environment Secretary for the necessary measures. The man was taken to the Civil Police station for the appropriate procedures.

Occurrence

The same operation also approached the vessel "São Bartolomeu IV", coming from Manaus also heading to Santarém. During the inspection, a man wanted by Justice was identified, who was the target of an open arrest warrant. He was taken to the Civil Police unit of the Candiru Base for the appropriate procedures and forwarded to Justice.
