Patients, companions, and professionals from the Dr. Roberto Macedo Emergency Room (PSRM) in Belém were surprised on the morning of this Monday (1st) by a saxophonist's performance, which brought the lightness of music to the hospital environment, relaxing and moving dozens of people.

The cultural and entertainment moment results from the investments of the state emergency management in the reception led by the Humanization Committee, which has sought partnerships with volunteers from various social segments to promote well-being, making the hospital experience more pleasant.

Musician Geovany Monteiro Moraes makes music an instrument of solidarity

Motivation - Geovany Monteiro Moraes, a sergeant in the Brazilian Army, is one of the volunteers involved in the action. Today, he was responsible for brightening the morning of hospitalized patients and those waiting for care in the receptions, as well as the professionals responsible for the services offered at the health unit.

The musician, who started performing at the Ophir Loyola Hospital as a member of the Army Band, said that "the performances at the beds where patients remained hospitalized for months, sometimes without receiving any visits," brought joy, which motivated him to continue using music as a tool to alleviate suffering.

“I started doing this volunteer work playing saxophone in hospitals in 2018, initially at Ophir Loyola and later at other public hospitals in Belém. Today, I perform in almost all hospitals in the region,” he added.

Maria de Jesus was moved by the praises

Maria de Jesus Cabral de Oliveira, 61 years old, a resident of Icoaraci (a district of Belém), said she was moved by the praises played by the saxophonist. “The performance was beautiful and emotional. These actions lift the spirits of people who are hospitalized. I was surprised because there are times when I am alone when my daughter goes back to work, and I was feeling a bit sad. But when I heard that beautiful music, that praise, it was a wonderful thing. Praises to God, to Jesus, just for us, who need to be with Him here, to give us health and encouragement,” emphasized the patient.

“In a voluntary partnership with artist Geovanny Morais, today we were gifted with a very special repertoire. The music therapy project 'Sonorous Clinic' was born with the aim of offering, even if for a brief period, a moment of relaxation and comfort for everyone,” said the Humanization analyst Watuzi da Silva.

According to Wesley Rodrigo Furtado da Silva, 23 years old, it was very good to “wake up with music, and right away with an upbeat song, a little forró, which I like very much, and which drove away my sadness. The hospital should do this more often.”

“The project aligns perfectly with one of the main guidelines of the National Humanization Policy (PNH): the Expanded Clinic. More than just treating diseases, the Expanded Clinic invites us to care for the individual in a holistic way. This means that the focus expands to the person behind the diagnosis, considering their feelings, life history, and social context,” emphasized Watuzi da Silva.

Service and structure - The PSRM has 119 beds, distributed among adult and pediatric emergency sectors, hospitalization, and Intensive Care Units (ICUs). It also has six fully equipped surgical rooms, capable of performing medium and high complexity procedures, including minimally invasive video surgeries, which accelerate patients' recovery time.

Managed by the Acqua Institute, in partnership with the State Department of Public Health (Sespa), the PSRM is one of the pillars of the restructuring of public health promoted by the Government of Pará.
