The governor of Pará, Helder Barbalho, the State Secretary of Health, Ivete Vaz, and the Minister of Health, Alexandre Padilha, were in the municipality of Breves, in Marajó, on Thursday (28), to deliver works that expand the population's access to specialized services and strengthen the care structures of the Unified Health System (SUS) in remote areas.

In the municipality, the Specialized Rehabilitation Center (CER III) Lino Alves Rebelo was delivered, where treatments for people with intellectual, physical, and auditory disabilities will be offered, as well as the Orthopedic Workshop of Breves, responsible for the production, adaptation, and maintenance of orthoses, prostheses, and auxiliary equipment.

In the new units, treatments and rehabilitation for people with intellectual, physical, and auditory disabilities will be offered

According to information from the Ministry of Health, the Specialized Rehabilitation Centers, built with federal government resources, are units of specialized outpatient care that perform diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation, habilitation, granting, adaptation, and maintenance of assistive technologies, which aim at the inclusion of people with disabilities, incapacities, or reduced mobility. "In the case of the CER type III, it is a unit that provides services in three rehabilitation modalities. Here we will offer high-level treatments for auditory, physical, and intellectual disabilities," said Health Minister Alexandre Padilha.

On the occasion, one of the daughters of the businessman who gives his name to the Center, Lino Alves Rebelo, the radio host Deuza Alves, celebrated the arrival of such equipment to the municipality. "This is something very important and shows the sensitivity of all the governors, as people with disabilities have been hidden at home for a long time, without access to equipment like this, which brings autonomy, the freedom to come and go, a constitutional right," she emphasized.

Investments from the government of Pará ensure decentralization of care

In Breves, Governor Helder Barbalho highlighted that the works of the future Maternal and Child Hospital are ongoing, being constructed through an agreement between the government of Pará and the local city hall, with investments amounting to R$ 19 million.

Currently, the construction has reached 72% of the services executed. By 2026, the population of mothers and children from Breves, Anajás, Bagre, Curralinho, Gurupá, Melgaço, and Portel will be able to benefit from a hospital that plans to implement 30 general hospitalization beds; ten neonatal intensive care beds, including four ICU beds, four UCI beds, and two kangaroo UCI beds, as well as isolation, in addition to ten PPP rooms, following the guidelines of the Stork Network.

“With this initiative, we will decentralize care, so that a mother does not need to travel to other regions to have her baby, which can be close to their homes,” emphasized the State Executive Chief. Helder Barbalho also highlighted the construction of the new Polyclinic of Breves, which will offer the population 34 medical specialties, thus accelerating the access of the population of that municipality and all of Marajó to clinical care services, exams, and consultations.

The State Secretary of Health, Ivete Vaz, emphasized the commitment of the government of Pará to meet the schedules of the works in health units being carried out in Breves and in all municipalities in Pará. "We dedicate significant resources to build new maternity hospitals and modernize those already in operation. This promotes well-being and healthy development for our families in Pará. It is an investment in the present and future of our State," she said.
