Agents from the Antônio Lemos Base catch a suspect of rape against an elderly woman in the act

The integrated team from the Antônio Lemos Fluvial Base, linked to the Secretary of Public Safety and Social Defense (Segup), apprehended a man in the act for the crime of rape against an elderly woman near Vila Lawton, in Breves, in the Marajó archipelago, on Monday (26). The Base team was informed that, after the crime, which occurred last Sunday (24), the suspect fled to a relative's house in the region of Rio Jaburuzinho.

The victim reported that she was alone in her residence at the end of the afternoon on Sunday. Upon entering one of the rooms, the suspect was hiding behind the wardrobe present in the room and grabbed her to commit the abuse. After the crime, the suspect fled the scene. With the information received and the location of the suspect, the agents from the Fluvial Base moved to the locality, where they captured the man.

For the head of Segup, Ualame Machado, the presence of the Fluvial Bases ensures an agile and responsive action of the security forces in the state context. "It is important to emphasize the logistical preparation necessary to combat crime in the river network of Pará, especially in regions where boats are the main means of transportation," he stated.

The secretary of Segup added: "The implementation of the Antônio Lemos Base, for example, is essential for assisting the Marajoara population. In combating sexual crimes, they allow for a quick and effective response in the areas of prevention and confrontation of these offenses."

After the apprehension in the act, the suspect, victim, and witnesses were taken to the Specialized Police Station for Women's Assistance (DEAM) in Breves, where the apprehension in the act and other necessary procedures were carried out. The action was integrated by agents from the Public Safety Fluvial Group, Civil and Military Police.
