The State Secretariat of Penitentiary Administration (Seap), in partnership with the National Rural Learning Service (Senar), held this August the course on Operation and Maintenance of Backpack Brush Cutters at the Custody and Reintegration Unit of Vitória do Xingu (UCRV2). The initiative benefited 15 people deprived of liberty who are serving time in a closed regime, promoting professional qualification and opportunities for social reintegration.

The action is part of Seap's social reintegration policy and reinforces the commitment of the Government of Pará to the dignity and rights of people deprived of liberty. The course, conducted based on the protocols of the Undersecretariat of Operational Management (Sago) and the Operational Procedures Manual (MPO), took place without incidents, as reported by the unit's director, Emmett Alexandre.

Education and reintegration - According to Jacyra Cardoso, responsible for the Educational and Reintegration Coordination of Seap, the initiative values education as a tool for transformation. “The course upholds the right to education and respects human dignity,” she emphasized.

For the unit coordinator, penal officer Walter Ramos, the training represents an important advancement for the inmates of UCRV2, which has recently been reactivated. “With the partnership between Senar, the Public Ministry, and Seap, we will professionally train as many people deprived of liberty as possible, so that, upon their return to society, they can enter the job market more easily, generating income in a lawful activity and reducing crime rates and recidivism due to lack of opportunities,” he emphasized.

New classes and courses in planning - This was the first vocational course held at the prison unit since its reactivation. The management's expectation is to expand the training offerings in the coming months, with plans for 10 more courses, including: sewing, agricultural machinery maintenance, refrigeration, and residential electrician.

The training aims to promote autonomy, employability, and a new path for detainees in the reintegration process.
