On this Saturday (23), the first champions of the seventh stage of the Pará Open Games (Joapa) were defined, for the Xingu/Tapajós region. The competition involves the modalities of basketball, beach soccer, volleyball, handball, and table tennis. The event is promoted by the Government of Pará, through the State Secretariat of Sports and Leisure (Seel).

With the achievement of first place, the municipalities of Vitória do Xingu, in women's beach soccer, and Altamira, in women's handball and men's table tennis, secured a spot for the state stage.

In addition to the qualifiers, silver and bronze medals were also awarded in basketball, handball, volleyball, and table tennis. The basketball athlete from the municipality of Senador José Porfírio, who won bronze, highlighted the importance of participation.

“It was a good participation and we also achieved third place, in addition to the experience for athletes who are not used to playing basketball. It is gratifying to be invited to be their coach as well. The games, in general, are being productive. I can only thank for the organization of the event. It is important to promote the diffusion of sports, whether handball, basketball, or volleyball, because this allows us, as teachers, to have perspectives to work in schools as well, so that students have this sports experience, which is fundamental,” she emphasized.

The program continues until this Sunday (24), bringing together more than 480 athletes, when the champion of the Efficiency Trophy will be known, awarded to the municipality with the best overall performance in the region.

Considered the largest competition of amateur sports in the State, Joapa encompasses 144 municipalities in Pará, distributed across 10 regional stages.
