Ideflor-Bio discusses the implementation of the Recovery and Management Plan for the APA Triunfo do Xingu
In the meeting between representatives of Ideflor-Bio and Systemica, the first steps of the mobilization were analyzed, which aims to recover degraded areas
The Institute for Forest Development and Biodiversity of Pará (Ideflor-Bio) held a virtual meeting to discuss the Recovery and Management Plan for the Environmental Protection Area (APA) Triunfo do Xingu. The meeting included members from the State Secretariat for the Environment, Climate and Sustainability (Semas) and the organization Systemica, winner of the first concession for reforestation of public lands in Brazil utilizing Restoration Carbon Credits (ARR).
Developed by the Government of Pará, through Semas and Ideflor-Bio, with participation from the Institute of Lands of Pará (Iterpa), the project foresees the concession of 10.3 thousand hectares in the APA Triunfo do Xingu, in Altamira, a municipality in western Pará. The illegally deforested region will be reforested through private initiative.

With a concession period of 40 years, the project aims to recover 10.3 thousand hectares of forest and sequester 3.7 million tons of carbon, equivalent to 330 thousand flights around the planet. According to a study by the Pará government, the estimated investment is R$ 258 million. The expectation is to generate revenue of R$ 869 million, in addition to creating approximately 2 thousand jobs in the region.
The project is also part of the State's commitment to reducing deforestation and valuing living forests. Data from the Prodes System of the National Institute for Space Research (Inpe) indicate that, between July 2023 and August 2024, Pará recorded a 28.4% decrease in deforestation. In June 2024, the State recorded the largest reduction - 41% - in deforestation alerts for the month of June since 2019, according to Inpe data.

Mobilization - According to the manager of the Xingu Administrative Region of Ideflor-Bio, Marco Aurélio Oliveira, the meeting was held to present ideas and plans about the project to the organization members. “This meeting was promoted by us, from Ideflor-Bio, to bring the participants of this action closer, aiming to inform them about the mobilization carried out by the company Systemica regarding environmental issues and environmental preservation, through the preservation of areas and recovery of degraded locations,” said the manager.
Marco Aurélio Oliveira reinforced the forecast of recovering more than 10 thousand hectares of deforested areas in the APA Triunfo do Xingu, and added that the Recovery and Management Plan is expected to generate more than 2 thousand jobs for local residents.
