The Carajás Miguel Chamon Polyclinic, in Marabá, has already established itself as a reference for specialized care in the southeastern region of Pará. Among the medical areas offered, Otorhinolaryngology, responsible for the diagnosis and treatment of diseases affecting the nose, throat, and ears, is one of the most sought after.

Fifteen-year-old Derick Rian, a resident of Nova Ipixuna, a municipality in the Tucuruí Lake Integration Region, arrived at the Pará government unit seeking an evaluation of his vocal cords. "I am very grateful for the care, and now I will undergo all the requested tests to get a more accurate diagnosis and improve my health," said the student.

Andressa Dias, a resident of Bom Jesus do Tocantins, in the Carajás Integration Region, sought care for her son, Beny Dias, 7 years old, who was experiencing respiratory difficulties. "I noticed that he had restless nights and was breathing with effort through his nose. We found guidance and the necessary referral to better care for his health," she reported.

At the unit, managed by the Institute of Social and Environmental Health of the Amazon (ISSAA), in partnership with the State Department of Public Health (Sespa), professionals in the field offer a complete evaluation of the respiratory tract, ears, and throat. When necessary, imaging or hearing tests are requested to indicate the most appropriate treatment.

Joabe Lopes, executive director of the Polyclinic, informed that the provision of specialized care reinforces the unit's commitment to expanding the population's access to quality health services. "The presence of the otorhinolaryngologist at the Carajás Polyclinic ensures more accurate diagnoses and effective treatments, allowing our patients to receive comprehensive and humanized care close to home," he emphasized.

Prevention and Care - Otorhinolaryngologist Fernanda de Queiroz, who works at the Carajás Polyclinic, explained that she treats various diseases. Among the most common are allergic rhinitis, sinusitis, tonsillitis, otitis, voice changes, and disorders related to hearing and sleep, such as apnea.

According to the specialist, prevention is always the safest path. "Symptoms such as persistent hoarseness, nasal obstruction, ear pain, or progressive hearing loss should not be ignored. The earlier the diagnosis, the greater the chances of effective treatment," she emphasized.

She also highlighted simple care to prevent respiratory crises, which can make a difference in daily life. In the case of the nose, keeping the mucosa hydrated, avoiding frequent contact with dust and smoke, and not overusing decongestants.

Regarding the throat, the doctor advised that it is necessary to maintain good fluid intake and be attentive to sudden temperature changes. "If the pain is persistent or if there are changes in the voice that do not improve, it is best to seek specialized care," she said.

About the ears, Fernanda de Queiroz warned of the risk of using cotton swabs or similar objects, which can cause injuries. "Any pain, discharge, or decrease in hearing needs to be investigated by a professional," she reinforced.

Regulation - The services at the Polyclinic are directed by the State Regulation Center, linked to Sespa. To access the services, the user must seek a Basic Health Unit (UBS), obtain a referral, and present it to the Municipal Health Department of their city, which will register and schedule an appointment.

The Carajás Polyclinic is a reference in health in the southeastern Pará. The unit offers care in more than 25 medical specialties and performs over 20 medium and high complexity exams. The institution also performs low-complexity surgical procedures. All care is 100% free, through the Unified Health System (SUS).
