The domestic worker Maria Madalena Souza, a resident of Ananindeua, a municipality in the Metropolitan Region of Belém, plans to complete the long-dreamed construction of her house with the second phase of the housing benefit provided by the state government. "I will plaster, lay flooring, tiles, and finish my bathroom. I can't even believe that I will be able to move into my own house, because I live in my mother's house, and I have always wanted to have my own little place," says Madalena, about to realize her long-held dream.

On National Housing Day - August 21, the Government of Pará, through the Housing Company (Cohab), multiplies Maria Madalena's story by more than 120,000 families across Pará who have already benefited from the housing program "Sua Casa". Since 2019, the state public policy has primarily transformed the lives of thousands of women, heads of families, who struggle to have their own homes and to provide comfort and dignity to all.

Benefit for All - The president of Cohab, Manoel Pioneiro, emphasizes that "Sua Casa" is not a loan. It is a donation made by the state so that families in vulnerable situations can improve their housing conditions. "And it is present in all municipalities in Pará, benefiting everyone, traditional peoples and riverside communities, so that families can have decent housing," stressed the program manager.

More than 1,500 families of indigenous, quilombola, and riverside communities have benefited from the resources since the creation of "Sua Casa".

"Sua Casa" was created by Governor Helder Barbalho through Decree No. 8,967, dated December 30, 2019, with the aim of assisting families in situations of social vulnerability for the construction, reconstruction, or adaptation of residences. Each family can receive up to R$ 21,000.

National Housing Day was established in Brazil in 1964 to honor the approval of the Housing Finance System Law and the creation of the National Housing Bank (BNH), which has since been dissolved. The date celebrates the constitutional right to decent housing.
