Government Housing Benefit of Pará Guarantees Dignified Housing for Families in Soure
Since 2019, more than 1,200 families have benefited from the Sua Casa check in the municipality, in the Marajó archipelago

Much more than sand, cement, wood, among other items that make up the list of construction materials, the Sua Casa housing benefit - which reached families in social vulnerability in Soure, in the Marajó archipelago - brings along comfort, hope, the realization of dreams, and, above all, a better life.
Housewife Liliane Nascimento could not contain her emotion when recounting how her house was before and how it is now, where she can offer a complete home for her family, with a living room, kitchen, and three bedrooms for her children. “I lived in a thatched house, it was very bad, I struggled a lot selling coconut candy on the streets, but I could never build anything, then when the check arrived I was able to build my house and today it just needs a few details and finishes, but for me it is beautiful all in masonry, and I can provide better comfort for my family,” she concludes with a smile.
Housewife Soeli Cabral also reports that she lived in a straw house, and that receiving the benefit brought a lot of joy and happiness to her family. “For sure today we live much better. I had already managed to raise two compartments when I received the check, then I went and finished my house,” reports the Marajoara.
Liliane and Soeli are among the more than 1,200 families who have received the Sua Casa housing benefit from 2019 until now in Soure, an island municipality, which according to the last census by IBGE/2022 (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics) has more than 20,000 inhabitants.
The state housing benefit aims to guarantee assistance for the acquisition of construction materials and for the payment of workers employed during the work. The amount granted by “Sua Casa”, through the Housing Company of Pará (Cohab), can reach up to 21 thousand reais.
According to Cohab, from 2019 to 2025 about 10,000 families from the Marajó archipelago received the Sua Casa housing benefit.
The resources made available for free must be used for the construction, renovation, expansion, or adaptation of the housing in cases where the family has a person with a disability (PCD).

For the president of Cohab, Manoel Pioneiro, the Sua Casa housing program fulfills an important social function throughout its trajectory, “establishing itself as one of the largest housing programs in Brazil, having already benefited more than one hundred thousand families throughout Pará, ensuring access to dignified housing.”
To receive the benefits, candidates must meet the criteria - established by law - to be registered. After registration, Cohab gradually selects the registered individuals based on the order of priorities set forth in the program guidelines. As candidates are selected, the engineering team of the Company begins the evaluation and diagnosis process of the housing. Next, the following phase consists of the socioeconomic analysis by the social assistance sector of the Company, at which point the technicians will verify the real social condition of the candidates.
Priority for receiving the benefit is given to victims of disasters and natural calamities, women heads of families, the elderly, and people with disabilities.
