Team from the Antônio Lemos River Base arrests suspect of kidnapping and unlawful imprisonment

The integrated team from the Antônio Lemos River Base, linked to the State Secretariat of Public Security and Social Defense (Segup), arrested a man for kidnapping and unlawful imprisonment on the 'Preguiça River', a rural area of Breves, in the Marajó archipelago. The arrest occurred on Monday (18) and the team was called in the afternoon, reporting that the suspect was illegally carrying a homemade .20 caliber firearm and had taken his girlfriend against her will in a small boat.

Given the information received, agents from the Public Security River Group (GFlu), Civil Police, and Military Police moved to the location, where unlawful imprisonment was confirmed in the context of domestic violence, as the woman was taken using violence and serious threats.

After gathering information on the suspect's location, the team moved to the Preguiça River, where the arrest was made. During the capture, the victim reportedly threw the weapon in the suspect's possession into the river, making it impossible to seize the firearm due to the depth of the area.

For the head of Segup, Ualame Machado, the case reinforces, once again, the role of public security in the river network of Pará. “The River Bases have proven to be a fundamental point in curbing crimes and preserving social peace in Marajó and other areas where they are present, such as in Baixo Amazonas. In addition to bringing institutional action closer to riverside populations, it is important to highlight the quick and effective response in cases of domestic violence and against women. Our commitment, as a public security system, is also in preserving lives,” said the secretary.

After the arrest, the suspect, victim, and witness were taken to the Urban Section of Breves, where the flagrant offense was recorded and other applicable procedures were carried out.
