Pará presents advances in the penitentiary system during national meeting in Manaus
The Deputy Secretary of Seap highlighted resocialization, control, and efficiency policies implemented by the State Government

Representing the Government of Pará, the Deputy Secretary of Operational Management of the State Secretariat of Penitentiary Administration (Seap), Ringo Alex Frias, participated in the 14th ordinary meeting of the National Council of Secretaries of Justice, Citizenship, Human Rights, and Penitentiary Administration (Consej), held this week at the Vasco Vasques Convention Center in Manaus (AM). The meeting brought together state and federal authorities and representatives of the National Public Security Forum, aiming to promote the exchange of experiences and strengthen integrated policies.
During the event, the representative from Pará presented the advances achieved in the state penitentiary system over the last six years under the management of Governor Helder Barbalho. The actions include strengthening security in prison units, expanding social reintegration programs, and modernizing penitentiary administration.
Efficiency and humanization of the prison system
In his speech, Ringo Alex Frias emphasized that the public policies implemented by the Government of Pará have ensured a safer, more efficient prison system focused on the dignity of individuals deprived of liberty.
“In six years, we have built a fairer penitentiary system, ensuring social peace. We have managed to value the dignity of the human person deprived of liberty,” stated the deputy secretary.

He also highlighted investments in sentence remission programs through work and education, as well as strict control of the entry of illicit materials into prisons. “We have advanced in building policies focused on work, education, and health, in addition to controlling the prison population and access to the units,” he emphasized.
National debate on the prison system
The event's program included a technical visit to the Anísio Jobim Penitentiary Complex (Compaj), as well as discussions on strategic topics such as modernization of the prison system, penal alternatives, promotion of human rights, violence prevention, and combating torture.
For Ringo Alex Frias, the exchange of experiences between states strengthens the formulation of more efficient and integrated public policies. “It is beneficial to share experiences and discuss challenges and proposals with authorities from the Brazilian penitentiary administration. From here, we can leave with new ideas to improve the national prison system,” he concluded.
