Humanized care marks oncology service at the Regional Hospital in Marabá
At the Regional Hospital of Southeast Pará, the team combines technical excellence and emotional support to empower patients at every stage of the fight against cancer

At the Regional Hospital of Southeast Pará – Dr. Geraldo Veloso (HRSP), in Marabá, oncology care goes beyond medical protocols. The unit combines technical excellence with a humanized approach, ensuring comprehensive care that encompasses not only clinical treatment but also constant psychological support for patients and their families.

At 33 years old, Deyse Lopes, from Marabá in the Carajás region, felt the impact of this differentiated care during her journey. Diagnosed with breast cancer, she faced months of chemotherapy and surgery, supported by a team that combined technique and affection.
"Here, I received more than medical treatment; I found love and support," she states.
For Deyse, more than clinical advancements, what truly marked her journey was the affectionate welcome she received. "Throughout these months, I went through other places, but at the Regional, I was welcomed like in a true family. Here, I found safety, respect, and care in every gesture, and that gave me strength to face cancer," she reports.

Nurse Ticiane Dantas Oliveira, who was by Deyse's side during the most delicate moments, emphasizes that humanized care is an essential part of recovery. "There were days of struggle, but also of conversations, laughter, and gestures of affection. We created a bond that went beyond technical care," she says.
Emotional support
At the Regional Hospital in Marabá, under the management of the Institute of Social and Environmental Health of the Amazon (ISSAA), in partnership with the State Department of Public Health (Sespa), the oncology service has a team of psychologists who provide continuous emotional support to patients and families, promoting strength, hope, and confidence.

For Mirelly Rosa, head of the Oncology Service, this approach makes all the difference in treatment outcomes. "Here, every professional understands that caring goes beyond technique. It is about being present, listening, welcoming, and creating an environment where the patient feels safe and supported at every stage of their journey," she states.
In addition to the psychologists' work, the entire Oncology Service team — doctors, nurses, technicians, and other members of the multidisciplinary team — incorporates humanization into their daily routine. Each service is conducted with technical excellence and, at the same time, with welcome, respect, and comprehensive attention, ensuring that the patient feels cared for in all aspects of their journey against cancer.

For psychologist Keliane Cardoso, responsible for the psychosocial sector of the hospital, this comprehensive care is a commitment that transforms lives. "When the patient realizes that they are not alone, that there is a support network ready to walk alongside them, hope strengthens and treatment gains a new meaning," she states.
She adds that the impact of this welcome goes beyond the hospitalization period. "Many patients leave here not only with clinical improvement but also with renewed confidence, restored self-esteem, and the certainty that they were seen and heard as human beings, not just as clinical cases," she concludes.
