In the early hours of this Sunday (10), the integrated inspection of the security forces stationed at the Candiru River Base, in Óbidos, a municipality in the Lower Amazon Integration Region, western Pará, resulted in the seizure of 375 kilograms of narcotics (type marijuana and cocaine), found on a vessel. During the operation, five men were arrested: two Brazilians and three Peruvians.

“The integrated teams operate, especially, in the inspection of vessels, aiming to inhibit criminal actions and the transport of illegal cargo, as demonstrated by yet another seizure carried out by our agents in the early hours of this Sunday, where a clandestine vessel was spotted navigating through the strait of Óbidos. It was possible to carry out this significant seizure and identify those responsible for the cargo. We will continue to act to curb drug trafficking, as well as other illegal acts on the rivers of Pará,” informed the Secretary of State for Public Security and Social Defense, Ualame Machado.

Occurrence - Agents from the Public Security River Group (Gflu) and the Military Police were conducting a routine patrol when they identified, on the opposite bank of the Amazon River to Base Candiru, an unlit speedboat crossing the strait of Óbidos, with five crew members. The agents activated the light alerts of the armored boat and identified the crew on board. The men attempted to flee but were intercepted and detained by the police team. On the boat, 336 packages of narcotics weighing 375 kg were found.

In addition to the narcotics, the agents seized the 7-meter boat with a 15 HP engine, another 40 HP engine, and 32 rounds of ammunition. All the seized cargo and the men caught in the act were taken to Base Candiru for initial procedures and will later be transported to Santarém for the completion of police work.
