Semas strengthens partnerships for urban requalification of Transportuária road in Itaituba
Works are expected to begin in October this year, so that Transportuária can be delivered to the population paved, with drainage and bike lanes, and closed to trucks, which will use another road.
Managers from the State Secretariat for the Environment, Climate and Sustainability (Semas) and representatives from the companies that are part of the Association of Port Terminals and Cargo Transshipment Stations of the Amazon Basin (Amport) met on Wednesday (6) to present the project for paving and urban requalification of the Transportuária road, located in the Miritituba district of Itaituba, southwest of Pará.
The Port of Miritituba is considered one of the largest port hubs in Brazil and one of the main logistical corridors for the flow of grain production from the states of Pará and Mato Grosso.
The Transportuária will be delivered paved, with a bike lane, and will be closed to truck traffic. Another, more distant road will be built for truck traffic. This project has already obtained the licensing requested by Via Brasil. The project plans to start construction in the second half of this year.

The urban improvement of the Transportuária will include complete paving, implementation of a drainage system, construction of curbs and sidewalks, as well as a bike lane, horizontal and vertical signage, and covered shelter points.
The initiative is the result of mitigating actions established as conditions of the environmental licensing process, which seek to bring together Amport member companies in the development of improvement solutions and concrete actions for the territorial, social, and environmental organization of the Miritituba district, benefiting surrounding communities.
Dialogue - "The new Transportuária is an achievement based on dialogue and the ability to act openly and collaboratively in problem-solving. I thank Mayor Nicodemos Aguiar, the City Council, and Amport for the constructive and collaborative dialogue. I also congratulate the Semas licensing team for their socio-environmental commitment. The urban requalification of the Transportuária is a commitment and responsibility of all towards the communities of the Miritituba district," highlighted Semas Deputy Secretary Rodolpho Zahluth Bastos.
In a joint agenda, the City Hall of Itaituba will be a partner in the execution of the work. The municipality will be responsible for formalizing the legal instrument with Amport, implementing public lighting, and managing and supervising the services. After delivery, the City Hall will also be responsible for controlling the use of the road and maintaining the urban infrastructure and pavement.

“It was a meeting of great importance for our municipality, especially for the residents of the Miritituba district, who have long suffered from the disruptions caused by trucks parked along the BR. Starting in October, this long-awaited work will begin, which goes far beyond paving: it will be a complete requalification. When completed, the population will benefit, as they will be able to move around with more safety and dignity. This is an achievement resulting from the union between the state government, through Semas, Amport, and the City Hall,” said Mayor Nicodemos Aguiar.
“Hidrovias do Brasil is proud to participate in a project that, through Amport and in partnership with Semas and the City Hall of Itaituba, will leave a legacy for the entire community living in the Miritituba district,” said Francisco Cortinas, Director of Institutional Relations of the company.
The president of Amport, Flávio Acatauassú, highlighted that "the urban requalification of the Transportuária road, in addition to providing better urban mobility, will prevent heavy vehicle traffic, which for years has impacted the daily lives of residents of the União and Nova Miritituba neighborhoods."
