Regional Hospital of Tapajós strengthens orthopedic care and ensures humanized care for patients
The unit in Itaituba has already performed more than 1,100 orthopedic surgeries in 2025 and serves residents of six municipalities in the Tapajós region
The government of Pará, through the State Department of Public Health (Sespa), continues to strengthen specialized assistance in the southwest region of the state. In Itaituba, the Regional Hospital of Tapajós (HRT) is a reference for orthopedic emergency and urgent care, directly benefiting the population of six municipalities: Itaituba, Aveiro, Jacareacanga, Novo Progresso, Rurópolis, and Trairão.
Between January and June 2025, the unit performed 1,165 orthopedic surgeries, consolidating its strategic role in the decentralization of public health in Pará. With 153 beds – including Adult, Pediatric, and Neonatal Intensive Care Units (ICU) – HRT provides comprehensive support to patients in medium and high complexity situations.
Technical care combined with empathy
Orthopedic surgeon Leonard Cabral emphasized that the hospital's differential lies in the combination of technical excellence and humanized care. “Each procedure is performed with precision and empathy, ensuring that the patient receives cutting-edge technical treatment, but also humane,” he stated.
One example of this care is the case of patient Roberto Hoffmam Tidre, 36, who has been hospitalized in the unit for several weeks after suffering a serious accident on public roads. After undergoing complex orthopedic surgeries, he continues in long-term treatment, focusing on intensive rehabilitation.
Last Thursday (07), the multidisciplinary team at HRT prepared a surprise celebration to honor Roberto's birthday, with cake, tributes, and even a haircut. The gesture moved the patient, who made a point of expressing his gratitude.
“It was an unforgettable moment. I never imagined spending my birthday in a hospital, but what I received here was more than medical care – it was humanity, respect, and love. This makes all the difference in my recovery,” declared Roberto.
Humanization as part of the routine
For the unit's care manager, Carlos Henrique, actions like this reinforce the team's commitment to care that values not only physical health but also the emotional well-being of patients.
“The results reflect the commitment of the entire team to the health of our people. The focus is on recovering lives with technical excellence and welcoming. Moments like Roberto's birthday show that we are on the right track,” he emphasized.
Management and partnership - The Regional Hospital of Tapajós is managed by the Social Institute Mais Saúde, in partnership with the State Department of Public Health (Sespa). The unit is part of the hospital network of the Government of Pará, focusing on expanding access to specialized health care in strategic regions of the state, contributing to reducing inequalities and providing quality care closer to the population.
