Meeting with extractive associations reinforces the importance of registration for retirement, defeso insurance, and rural credit

The Government of Pará, through the State Secretariat for Agricultural Development and Fisheries (Sedap), held a meeting on Thursday (7) at its headquarters with representatives of the Associations of Users of Coastal and Marine Extractive Reserves (AUREMs), aiming to guide artisanal fishermen about the importance of regularizing the General Fishing Registration (RGP).

The initiative is carried out in partnership with the Chico Mendes Institute for Biodiversity Conservation (ICMBio) and aims to ensure that fishing professionals have full access to public policies, such as retirement, pension, defeso insurance, credit, and income transfer programs.

Document guarantees access to social rights

The director of Fisheries at Sedap, Orlando Lobato, emphasized the role of the RGP as an instrument of citizenship and cultural appreciation of traditional communities. "Considering our identity as fishermen and the tradition of our community, it is essential to ensure access to an adequate registration that allows us to enjoy the benefits of defeso insurance, but also all the rights inherent to full citizenship," he highlighted.

According to Sedap's fishing engineer, Cleydiane Magalhães, Pará has approximately 400,000 active RGPs, covering both artisanal and industrial fishing activities. She highlighted the municipalities with the highest concentration of registered fishermen: Maracanã, Marapanim, São Caetano de Odivelas, São João da Ponta, and São Francisco do Pará.

Identification and regularization in Extractive Reserves

The socio-environmental manager of ICMBio, Rodrigo Moraes, pointed out that the joint action seeks to map fishermen who are not yet registered in the 14 Coastal and Marine Extractive Reserves of the state. "We have significant work ahead, which involves identifying and registering beneficiaries. It is essential for us to carry out the process of identification and accounting for each RGP," he stated.

Meanwhile, the representative of the Federation of Fishermen of the State of Pará (FEPa), Erli Júnior, warned about the need to keep the registration always updated. "Obtaining and maintaining the RGP is a continuous process and requires daily monitoring, as the document is essential for the fisherman to prove his activity and fully exercise his profession," he reinforced.

Step by step to request the RGP

During the meeting, Sedap presented the steps for issuing the RGP through the PesqBrasil platform, a digital system of the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture. The criteria for registration follow the parameters of Law No. 12.527/2025.

To request the registration, it is necessary:

- Have a Gov.br account at Silver or Gold levels
- Access the PesqBrasil portal
- Fill out the online form
- Attach the required documents

The guidance is that the process should be done with the support of representative entities to avoid errors in filling out and ensure more agility in processing.
